With spring on the horizon, we are all enjoying more outdoor time, and we are happy to see families utilizing our outdoor play areas after school! We wanted to share a few reminders to make sure everyone has a safe and enjoyable time on our campus:

1. Once you have picked up your child from their classroom, they should be under your supervision at all times.
2. Running is not permitted indoors (except in the gym) at any time.
3. Children are not permitted to leave the building without an adult. Please keep your children with you in the hallways.
4. When in outdoor play areas, children must be supervised by an adult. Children should not be sent back into the building unaccompanied.

Delaware's Giving Day - Help WMS Do More This Thursday and Friday

Wilmington Montessori School will be participating in Do More 24 Delaware for a fifth year, from 6 p.m. on Thursday, March 7 to 6 p.m. on March 8. Do More 24 is a day-long celebration of the many non-profit organizations, including WMS, that contribute to life in Delaware. 

What is this fundraiser for?

Funds raised through Do More 24 2024 will go toward WMS's 2023-24 Annual Fund. Annual fund gifts help provide financial assistance to families who wouldn’t otherwise be able to afford a WMS education, support our teachers’ quests for lifelong learning, allow us to maintain our beautiful 25-acre campus and facilities, and so much more. We are about $12,000 away from this year's $90,000 annual fund goal and we know we can get there with your help! 

How can you participate? 

1. Give (and have your gift matched!) - Sign up for a reminder and make a gift to WMS through the Do More 24 website during the 24-hour event! An anonymous WMS Board member will be matching up to $500 in gifts contributed through this event! Gifts of all sizes matter - there are hourly bonuses given to organizations with the most individual donations ($5 or more) and a stretch pool with matching funds based on the amount of funds we raise over the 24-hour event... In other words, your gifts will DO MORE if you give during Do More 24!

2. Help us spread the word through social media! 

Current parents, please check Bloomz to find out how you can earn up to three Co-op hours by creating a fundraiser for WMS, sharing it with friends and family, and collecting donations! You can also share our posts or post about WMS on Facebook, Instagram or X (formerly known as Twitter) using #DoMore24DE and tag us!

Prizes will be given to organizations with international donations and those who receive gifts from the most U.S. states!

Exploring Musical Instruments in Room 5

Last week, the toddlers in Room 5 delighted in a series of daily "concerts," each one unique and brimming with energy. These performances featured not only musical beats but also, in some cases, spontaneous dancers grooving to the rhythm. From creating melodies on a wooden xylophone or small keyboard to shaking maracas, rain sticks, jingle bells, and a wooden sound tube, the children were immersed in a symphony of sounds.

Exposure to music is invaluable for young minds, allowing them to absorb a spectrum of notes, tones and words that will shape their future linguistic and cognitive abilities. Engaging with musical instruments is a fantastic way for children to refine both their fine and gross motor skills. Music also presents children with challenges and multi-sensory experiences that bolster their learning capabilities and cognitive development. It stimulates various cognitive functions, including planning, working memory, inhibition and flexibility. Music serves as a catalyst for holistic child development, nurturing language acquisition, reading proficiency and mathematical aptitude.
