NEWS & NOTES
Join Us Thursday for "Jukebox Wonder" - This Year's 9-12/Middle School Musical

Jukebox Wonder began as a 9-12/Middle School project for which students created two “This Is Me” playlists - one based on interviewing family members about music and cultural identity, and another of songs with personal meaning to the students themselves. The students then studied classic musicals and the purpose of the songs in them. The middle-schoolers taught the 9-12 students a lesson on writing a musical, using techniques such as story-boarding.

Jukebox Wonder uses the story from the book Wonder, written by R.J. Palacio in 2012, which was the students’ summer reading. It is a jukebox musical (like "Mama Mia," "Rock of Ages" or "Moulin Rouge"), which uses existing popular songs around a certain theme to tell a story. The themes of the show are identity and DEI-B (diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging), and the songs were chosen from the students’ “This Is Me” playlists. We hope you will join us for the show!

Reaching Goals
by Alyssa Ross, Lead Toddler Teacher
Climbing is a big deal for toddlers, and at our school there are so many places to climb. Many Room 4 students have been focused on climbing one rock in particular this week, and with lots of practice, they made it to the top.
When they climb, teachers stand close by, but only offer encouragement and spot them if they fall. They have to do all of the climbing up and down on their own. The children want to hold on to their teachers, but they are firm that they must do it themselves. They are beaming with pride when they achieve the goal!
