Updates: Mask Mandate and Classroom Visits
As we shared yesterday, there has been an uptick in COVID-19 cases across WMS and the local community. With this in mind, we have reinstituted our school-wide indoor mask mandate. After we receive results from our on-site testing on Tuesday, May 31, we will make a decision regarding whether we will continue to mask for the remainder of the school year.
Several of you have asked whether parents may still enter the school. At this time, parents may still come inside if they remain masked. We will not be hosting large gatherings (on a school-wide or classroom basis); however, families are still invited to observe, assist with requested classroom co-op tasks, and attend individual birth and life celebrations.
Along with masking, in order to mitigate the spread of COVID-19 we will continue to make sure our classrooms have adequate ventilation and spend as much time outdoors as possible (including meals and snacks) when weather allows.
If your child experiences any COVID-19 symptoms - fever, cough, shortness of breath, sore throat, muscle aches, fatigue, chills, shaking with chills, loss of smell or taste, nausea or vomiting, diarrhea, or headache, congestion or runny nose - please stay at home and take a COVID test. The majority of the cases we have identified in children have been mild or even asymptomatic, so surveillance testing remains an important part of our efforts to ensure that cases are identified before they spread in our school. All COVID test results should be sent to covidresults@wmsde.org for immediate processing. Results sent to other email addresses or via Bloomz may delay the school's response to any positive cases.
Thank you for continuing to offer your support as we make the difficult decisions needed to keep our community healthy. Please feel free to contact Nurse Mariah or Lisa at any time if you have questions.
