Summer is Coming

We have one week remaining in the 2023-24 school year. As this year comes to a close, we can’t help but reflect on the ways in which children have grown in every way. Some who had to be carried in September are now proudly wearing their backpacks and dragging their nap mats along behind them. Others may have been hesitant about a new school year, meeting new teachers and classmates, and are now running ahead of their families to greet a trusted peer or adult. And many have gained skills that they worked hard for in language, math, practical life or other academic areas. We have also grown - in our teaching practice and as people as we’ve gotten to know your children and families. WMS is a place where growth is a key experience. We recognize it, learn from it and look forward to our future learning.

As summer kicks off, schedules are filled with new and familiar activities which provide opportunities for your children to continue to learn and grow. We wish you the best as your family prepares for the summer days ahead, whether they include time at Camp Montessori, with extended family, friends, or travels near and far. Enjoy the longer summer days ahead!

News & Notes

A Message from the 9-12 and Middle School Classes: Thank you for supporting the Empty Bowl Event!

Thank you everyone for your amazing support of last week's Empty Bowl Event! We're so grateful that so many of you made bowls, bought tickets, gave donations, brought food and lent us items, and volunteered your help! We were able to raise over $4,000 to make a direct donation to food and water insecurity causes. In addition, Water is Life Kenya made over $1,100 in jewelry sales, which helps fund their programs.

These funds will make a significant impact. Your support has shown students what a community can do when it comes together, and that even a small group of people can make a huge difference.

Year-End Co-op Reminder

We are so grateful for everything our families have done to support the WMS through the Co-op Program!

With just one week remaining in the school year, be sure to check your FACTS account to verify your progress toward the 25-hour Co-op requirement and submit any hours you haven't yet recorded to avoid being billed for incomplete hours.

Important Year-End Schedule Information

The last day of the 2023-24 school year is Wednesday, June 5. This will be a half day, with dismissal at 1 p.m.

There will be no school or child care on the afternoon of June 5, as well as June 6 & 7, EXCEPT for 2023-24 year-round (12-month) students.

Camp Montessori begins on June 10. If you haven't already registered don't forget to sign up here! Many programs are already filled to capacity but limited spaces are available for some ages and sessions.

Year-End Reminders

As you prepare for summer fun and relaxation, here are a few quick reminders to end the school year:

Bloomz

Please make sure you have downloaded any photos you would like to save from your child's class group/Bloomz portfolio before Friday, June 7. If your child is moving to a new classroom/program level or leaving WMS, you may not have access to their photos after this date!

Keycards

If you are not returning to WMS in the fall and have a WMS keycard, please return it to the front desk in an envelope labeled with your child's last name on the last day of school, unless your child is attending camp.

Re-enrollment/Ongoing Communications

If you have not yet re-enrolled for the 2024-25 school year, please do so as soon as possible. Following the last week of school, we will be sending communications (including this newsletter) only to enrolled families and those attending camp. If you are not returning to WMS but would like to remain on our email list, please email noel_dietrich@wmsde.org.
