Safety

Safety & Security Reminders

To help us keep Wilmington Montessori School safe and secure, please follow these guidelines when entering and exiting the building.

Use of Main Entrance and Keycards

  • Enter and exit through the main entrance only using your designated keycard. Avoid using secondary exits, such as the side entrance, so we can accurately monitor building access.
  • Lost or missing keycard? Contact Debbie at the Front Desk to order a replacement. Carrying your keycard ensures you can enter the building, even if the front desk is momentarily unattended.

Staying in the Building After Drop-Off

If you plan to remain on campus after drop-off for any reason—such as observing a classroom, attending an event or completing a Co-op job—please sign in at the Front Desk. This is essential so we know you’re present in case of a fire alarm or other emergency.

Thank you for helping to keep our community safe!

Middle School Students Shine in the Bent But Not Broken Honor Choir

Last month, two of our Middle School students, Morgan Josey and Lilah Heiger, had the exciting opportunity to participate in the Bent But Not Broken (BBNB) Honor Choir. Alongside talented young vocalists from across the region, they performed on Saturday, October 26, at Grace United Methodist Church. This memorable concert was part of the four-day BBNB music conference, which celebrates the achievements and legacy of Black vocal artists across musical genres and eras.

The choir was led by Coty Raven Morris, a respected choral conductor and advocate for social justice in music education. Originally from New Orleans and an alumna of Texas State and Michigan State universities, Morris currently teaches at Portland State University. She is also the founder of Being Human Together, an organization that fosters open conversations on challenging topics through music education.

We are proud of Morgan and Lilah for representing our school and for embracing this opportunity to honor the rich contributions of Black musicians.

CLASSROOM NEWS - As Seen on Bloomz

Celebrating Diwali

With the help of several WMS families, students of all ages have been experiencing the vibrant traditions of Diwali. Celebrated widely in India and by millions around the world, Diwali honors light over darkness, hope and renewal.

WMS families visited classrooms and shared stories, rituals and symbols of the holiday, bringing to life values like humility, positivity, respect for parents and teachers, and being a role model in our communities. Students learned about diyas (small lamps symbolizing light over darkness) and created their own. They also explored rangoli and pulli kolam designs, intricate art forms meant to celebrate beauty and welcome positive energy.

Primary students dressed in traditional Indian attire, parading through the school and wishing everyone a joyful “Happy Diwali!” Many students also had the chance to try some delicious Diwali treats.

Thank you to the families who helped bring this celebration to WMS! If you would like to share your own traditions with the WMS community, please reach out to your child's teacher!
