Family-Teacher Conferences

Dear Families,

This week, WMS held our first round of family-teacher conferences, and we are grateful to have had the opportunity to collaborate with families, engaging in meaningful dialogue about their student’s progress in both developmental and academic domains. When families and educators work together, we create a cohesive support system that reinforces a love of learning and enhances the school experience. The exchange of information that takes place at conferences fosters mutual respect and allows all members of the team to learn from one another, adapting strategies that best support student needs.

As a school that values families as partners in their child’s education, we appreciate the wisdom they bring to these early goal-setting conferences. We strive to combine what we learn from them with our own expertise to create plans for the year ahead. The collaborative atmosphere we create together doesn’t go unnoticed by WMS students; feeling they have a team of adults who are rooting for them and are available to help along their learning journey empowers them and helps them feel understood. This foundation ultimately leads to academic success and the development of skills that will help them navigate life and learning for years to come.

Warmest regards,

Sarah E. Williams

Head of School

NEWS & NOTES

Virtual Lunch & Learn Sessions for Families of Rising First & Fourth-Graders

Wednesday, October 23 at Noon on Zoom

Families of current kindergartners and third-graders are invited to learn about your child's next step at WMS. We will describe a typical day and share curriculum highlights unique to the 6-9 and 9-12 programs. Learn about the benefits of WMS's elementary Montessori programs as compared to more traditional classroom settings, as well as what differentiates the learning experience from their current grade level. There will be plenty of time for live Q&A! All attendees will earn one hour of Co-op time.

Families who register below will be emailed the Zoom link prior to the programs. Register on Bloomz!

Halloween Costume Guidelines

Parade at 9:30 a.m. on October 31

We look forward to gathering as a community for our annual Halloween parade on Thursday, October 31 at 9:30 a.m. In order to make the day fun for all of our students, we ask that children's costumes meet the following guidelines:

  • No weapons of any kind are allowed as part of a costume.
  • Costumes may not depict blood, guts or gore.
  • Costumes may not depict stereotypes of any group or culture.
  • Because WMS's youngest students will be present at school that day, costumes must not be frightening to small children.
  • Hair color and makeup should be applied at home and not brought to school.
  • Students should arrive at school in costume.
  • If you have any questions about appropriate costume choices, please let us know. Your child will change out of their costumes after the parade, so please send in a regular set of clothes for your child to wear afterward.
