Safety and Security Updates & Reminders
In light of the recent tragedy in Georgia, we know that school safety is on everyone's minds. For this reason, we wanted to take a moment to share some of the security measures in place at WMS and provide a few reminders on how you can contribute to keeping our community safe.
At WMS, a dedicated safety and security committee meets regularly throughout the year to evaluate and implement best practices, along withdeveloping procedures for a range of emergency scenarios. Over the years, this team has been instrumental in initiatives such as our keycard access system, shatter-proof window film for front-facing windows and the installation of security cameras. Our staff participates in ongoing safety training, supported by the Delaware Emergency Management Agency (DEMA), and all students and staff p articipate in a variety of drills throughout the year.
While we are happy to discuss the basics of our safety plans, we are unable to share specific details regarding our lockdown and lock-out procedures to ensure the safety of our community. We ask for your support in maintaining the security of our school by following these guidelines:
- Wear your “WMS Family” badge at all times while inside the building.
- Use your keycard to enter the building. If your card is misplaced, please contact Debbie or Noel immediately so it can be deactivated.
- Be prepared to reintroduce yourselves when entering the building, as staff may request your ID if you are not familiar to them.
- All visitors must sign in at the front desk and wear a visitor badge.
- Please enter and exit through the front door to help us monitor who is in the building, even if other exits may be more convenient.
- If you notice anyone on campus who seems out of place or suspicious, please notify the front desk or an administrator as soon as possible.
Thank you for your continued support in keeping WMS a safe and secure environment for everyone.
