Learning Together

When we become parents, we anticipate the wonderful things that lie ahead as children grow. We make the best choices for them, and choosing WMS is one of those choices.

At WMS, we spend a good deal of time reflecting on learning for our entire community, students, teachers and families. This fall we have a unique opportunity sponsored by the Association of Delaware Valley Independent Schools (ADVIS).

As a member of ADVIS, WMS has registered for their virtual parent information series that begins on September 28 from 7:30-8:30 p.m. This series of six virtual workshops runs from September through April including topics such as “Raising Resilient Children” to “Talking to Children about Difficult Topics.”

The program link will be shared through Bloomz in the days prior to each program offering. Each session will be worth one Co-op hour per family.

We will continue to share this and other learning opportunities throughout the year as we all continue to learn and grow in our respective roles.

How to Submit Your Hours Using FACTS (New this year!)

Have you begun to complete your Co-op hours for this year? If you attended this summer's Virtual STEAM night or a Back-to-School Curriculum Night, the answer is yes!

This year, we are using FACTS to track Co-op hours. This will allow you to view your total hours throughout the school year and keep track of your progress toward the 25-hour Co-op requirement.

To log your hours in FACTS (see screenshot below):

  1. Log into your account on the FACTS Family Portal. (Our district code is WM-DE).
  2. Click "Family" in the left side bar, and then "Family Home."
  3. Now, you will see your dashboard. Click "Add" under "Service Hours".
  4. Enter your information, leaving "Note" and "Verified By" blank - these are for staff use. Click "Save."
  5. Administrative staff will periodically review and verify entries.
  6. If you are claiming hours for purchases, please submit your receipts by email to co-op@wmsde.org.

If you have any questions regarding submitting your hours, email co-op@wmsde.org, for assistance.

What counts toward your family's Co-op requirement?

Earn Co-op hours by...

  • Attending parent education events (Back-to-School Nights, parent Q&As, The Journey, workshops, etc.)
  • Supporting your child's classroom (Attending field trips, offering a special presentation to the class, assisting with projects, repairing materials, etc.)
  • Supporting the school as a whole (Assisting with campus clean-up days, helping with special events, library support, office support - copying/laminating/etc.)

The following activities are NOT eligible for Co-op credit:

  • Attending social gatherings/parties (e.g., holiday events, birth & life celebrations) - however, you WILL receive credit if you help organize the party!
  • Attending student concerts and performances
  • Family/Teacher Conferences
  • Teacher meetings
  • Donating items - unless they are specifically requested by the class or school for a Co-op activity/event

Co-op opportunities will be posted on Bloomz! If you have suggestions for ways in which you would like to support the school through the Co-op Program, please contact your child's teacher (for classroom ideas) or Cristin Lettich (for school-wide projects).

If you have questions about the Co-op Program as a whole, please email co-op@wmsde.org. We look forward to partnering with you this year!

NEWS & NOTES

A Note From Nurse Dana Regarding Communication About COVID-19 and Other Infectious Diseases

Dear Families,

As we enter the fall and begin to spend more time indoors and at group gatherings, COVID-19 cases are on the rise throughout the United States. We wanted to take a moment to clarify our current policy on sharing information regarding COVID-19 and other communicable diseases within the WMS community.

If your child tests positive, please email nurse@wmsde.org as soon as possible. Emails to this address come to me and are redirected to an administrator if I am not at the school, to allow for a prompt response. When there is a positive case identified within a classroom community and the individual attended school within five days of the onset of symptoms or positive test result, our policy is to notify families and staff within the class so they can take appropriate precautions including monitoring for symptoms and testing as needed. There are times when a positive test result falls outside of that window. We will not notify you unless your child’s classroom is directly affected.

We follow the same policy for other reportable communicable diseases including (but not limited to) RSV, strep throat and influenza. If your child is diagnosed with any of these illnesses, it is important that you notify us as soon as possible to inform our communications and so that we can share our policies regarding when your child can return to school following their illness.

Please don’t hesitate to contact me at nurse@wmsde.org if you have any questions! Thank you for helping to keep our community healthy!

Best,

Dana Dougherty, R.N.

School Nurse
