Empowering Tomorrow's Leaders: Celebrating Peace & Student Leadership
Last week, WMS honored the International Day of Peace, which was established by the United Nations to promote peace and foster a non-violent culture. It is a day dedicated to educating people about our interdependence and the importance of conflict resolution.
This was the first all-school assembly of the year and was held, appropriately, in the WMS Peace Park. The Middle School students led the assembly, with the entire school painting peace signs and peace doves which can be seen throughout the campus.
Earlier in the week, a community meeting of the elementary and middle school class was held in the Great Room. Both of these occasions highlight our community and our connection to one another. Student-led assemblies and meetings are examples of the ways in which WMS supports students as they learn how to be part of a group, sharing their voices while also allowing the space for others’ voices to be heard.
Learning to collaborate and create a meaningful experience for others prepares WMS students for their future. As our 60th year continues, we look forward to sharing other examples of student leadership within the WMS community.
