We mourn the loss of our colleague, friend, and Room 18 Primary teacher Diane Rineer, and we thank everyone who's reached out in support of Diane's family and the WMS community. Read more about Diane.

In the coming weeks, we will be working on a community service project to honor her memory and passion for animals. If you would like to be part of this project, please contact Debbie Segear, Executive Administrative Associate.

NEWS & NOTES

Virtual Lunch & Learn Sessions for Families of Rising First & Third-Graders

October 25 at Noon on Zoom

Join us virtually on Wednesday, October 25 at noon. Families of current kindergartners and third-graders are invited to learn about your child's next step at WMS. We will describe a typical day and share highlights from our elementary programs. Learn about the differences and similarities between a Montessori program and a traditional classroom. There will be plenty of time for live Q&A!

Families who register below will be emailed the Zoom link prior to the programs.

Halloween Costume Guidelines

Parade at 9:30 a.m. on October 31

We look forward to gathering as a community for our annual Halloween parade on Tuesday, October 31 at 9:30 a.m. In order to make the day fun for all of our students, we ask that children's costumes meet the following guidelines:

  • No weapons of any kind are allowed as part of a costume.
  • Costumes may not depict blood, guts or gore.
  • Costumes may not depict stereotypes of any group or culture.
  • Because WMS's youngest students will be present at school that day, costumes must not be frightening to small children.
  • Hair color and makeup should be applied at home and not brought to school.
  • Students should arrive at school in costume.
  • If you have any questions about appropriate costume choices, please let us know. Your child will change out of their costumes after the parade, so please send in a regular set of clothes for your child to wear afterward.

CLASSROOM NEWS

Grandfriends' Day 2023

Thank you to everyone who joined us last week for Grandfriends' Day! It was a truly joyful morning!

Toddler Program

What can you do with a pumpkin?

Signs of fall are everywhere in our Toddler classrooms! Pumpkins can be explored in numerous ways using all of the senses: They can be lifted, weighed, scrubbed, painted and carved. Students experiment with them by dropping them in water to observe whether they sink or float. They love opening them up to scoop out the slimy seeds with their hands. And of course, the classes will be tasting some delicious pumpkin treats along the way!

Lower Elementary (6-9) Program

Exploring the Layers of the Earth

After experiencing Maria Montessori's Layers of the Earth lesson, the 6-9 students created their own representations of the earth's layers, first out of paper and then as weavings.
