Fall semester is only a few short weeks away. We are hard at work gearing up for the new academic year and looking forward to the excitement of students returning to campus.

President Montgomery talking with students on his first day
This week, we welcome Dr. Edward Montgomery as he starts his tenure as WMU's ninth president. He is already in full swing, meeting with students, faculty, staff and community leaders.

This newsletter is filled with valuable information for both new and returning families that we hope is helpful in planning for fall semester and beyond. Read on and as always, let me know how I can be helpful and support you as you support your student.

Hope to see you during move-in! Shari

Move-in Day Family Lounge - August 29 and 30

Please join us on your student's move-in day in the Family Lounge, located in the Bernhard Center, rooms 105-107. The lounge will be open from noon - 4 p.m. both days.

Along with taking a few moments to catch your breath and get your last-minute questions answered, we are offering two (free!) easy ways to support your student.

Create a care package for your student that will be delivered during Fall Welcome week. Please RSVP by Aug. 21 so we make sure we have plenty of goodies on hand.

Write a note of encouragement to your student that will be delivered a few weeks into the semester. Note cards will be provided.

New Student Reminders

WMU Email
Students should be checking their WMU email accounts regularly. Linking the WMU email address to a smart phone ensures that important information won't be overlooked. (And don't forget to download the WMU Mobile app!)

Online Modules
All first-year students are required to complete online modules prior to Aug. 25. The modules - Financial Literacy 101, AlcoholEdu for College & Haven for Sexual Assault - are designed to help your student navigate, manage and balance the academic and social aspects of college life.
  • Financial Literacy 101 - Helps students make the most of their money through personalized financial education.
  • AlcoholEdu for College - Whether your student drinks or not, this course empowers students to make well-informed decisions about alcohol and helps to reflect on and consider college drinking-related issues.
  • Haven for Sexual Assault - Learn about healthy relationships, the importance of consent and being a good communicator, and the many ways to help create a safe, positive campus.
Move In Information/Fall Welcome
Be fully prepared for your student's assigned  move-in day - on Aug. 29 or 30. And don't forget, we will have Bronco Buddies to assist with your move-in experience.
