Do vehicles still have shock absorbers? Do radio stations? I think we're about to find out, as the results of the recent election definitely came as a shock to most of us. Right up to election day, most media outlets were saying that the vote had as much as a 90% chance of turning out differently than it did. The looming change in presidential administrations will no doubt bring many new policies across the board. There's no way of knowing how this might affect our station, but we do receive federal dollars in the form of a grant from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting.

We're very proud of our Community Service Grant, but we're even prouder of the support we get from our listeners. We recently completed a very-nearly-successful membership drive, and we need a little more help to get us to the top. Just a few more coins in the fountain will allow us to balance the budget as we head into the quiet winter season here on the Cape. Thanks to everyone who contributed so far, and special thanks to everyone who is about to help us achieve our goal.
'Tis The Season

Whatever you may choose to celebrate, everyone can agree that the end of the year is a perfect time for a little good cheer. Come on out to the Schoolhouse on Saturday December 3 and mingle with us. Volunteers, listeners and staff alike are invited to share the love for community radio and each other. Bring something to share, even if it's just a warm smile. Ugly sweaters are not required.

The Thanksgiving holiday weekend marks some of the busiest travel and bar days of the year. It also marks the beginning of the charity ball season here on Cape Cod. Before 2016 is in the books, we'll celebrate the eleventy-seventh Yule For Fuel and the umpteenth Christmas Cavalcade for the homeless. Both events have become holiday traditions and mainstays of the social calendar. Yule For Fuel takes place over four Sundays between Thanksgiving and Christmas and benefits the Lower Cape Outreach Council. The Christmas Cavalcade hosted by Chandler Travis takes place December 11 and moves to the Ocean Edge Resort this year after many years at the Jailhouse Tavern in Orleans. The Cavalcade raises thousands of dollars for the Housing Assistance Corporation every year. With all due respect to those not on the bill, everyone who's anyone is a part of one or both events. You can be sure that there'll be plenty of warm hugs and maybe a tear or two shed as well.

News and Notes

The fall membership drive is behind us, but the numbers still don't quite add up. As folks move into holiday and winter mode, we ask you to think about the importance of fearlessly independent media. With your support, we continue to bring you the stories and music that our volunteers think are important. We provide direct access to the airwaves for people in a way that isn't possible anywhere else. If you like your music and news to be unfiltered, please consider making a donation today.

The Joe Gouveia Outermost Poetry Contest is your chance to have your poetry reviewed by award-winning poet and novelist Marge Piercy. Winners will be invited to participate in an event with Marge as the featured reader. Cash prizes are available. See the whole list of rules and regulations here. Entries must be post marked by Monday January 2, 2017.

If you've got a vehicle that you need to get rid of, we've got a deal for you. Just call 866-WOMR-123 or  fill out the form and our people will take care of the rest. You'll get a tax-deduction for the value of the vehicle. Everybody wins.
