Tango is a unique dance because even though the leader and the follower are each responsible for their own axises, the true connection in the dance occurs through sharing a third axis point between them. This series of classes will focus on finding connection in the embrace through the alignment of the leader and follower's axis. In order to maintain this alignment we will explore methods of compression and expansion in the embrace as well as pivoting techniques. These concepts will allow you to widen your tango vocabulary as well as create clear and smooth communication with your partner.

About Mia Dalglish & Marlon Ruckle
Mia Dalglish and Marlon Ruckle both found tango through unlikely paths. Marlon A. Ruckle, was born in Guatemala City, Guatemala and moved to Santa Barbara in 1990. Marlon has studied many dance forms and has been dancing the tango since 2005. He attended City College where he joined the dance department and danced under Kay Fulton. He has traveled to Argentina to continue the evolution of his tango dancing. Marlon also has a background in physical therapy and sports medicine and brings this knowledge of biomechanics into his teaching.
Mia Dalglish was born into a musical family and has been performing and training in the arts since she was a child. She grew up studying cello and voice and also has a strong background in yoga. Mia worked for some time as a professional photographer, and then as a photographic curator for a contemporary art gallery. When Mia found tango in 2010, and it was love at first sight. It incorporated all of her previous professions into one- it took music, physicality and combined it with visual aesthetics. Since then she has been training intensively with Fernanda Ghi + Guillermo Merlo to teach and perform.
Mia and Marlon now share the passion to perform, teach and dance argentine tango. They draw on their eclectic backgrounds to bring an understanding of musicality and body awareness to their understanding of tango and their teaching. Mia and Marlon have trained extensively with Fernanda Ghi + Guillermo Merlo and are currently instructors at Ghi + Merlo's Artango Dance School based out Boston, MA.

Sandy Flippo From San Antonio, TX
About Sandy:
Sandy grew up in a household dominated by classical music and dance. Her interest in tango and the culture of tango is a natural extension of this background. On her first visit to Argentina, she met Mario Orlando, a prominent DJ in Buenos Aires. She acquired much of her music from Mario, and he continues to influence her approach as a "musicalizadora de tango."
In addition to tango, she dances chacarera and zamba. Her music collection includes many selections of Argentine folklore.
