Word of the Week
November 11, 2020
From The Pastor

'Tis The Season?!
We just finished with pumpkins, and - ready or not! - we are quickly headed into Thanksgiving and Christmas - but not before another hurricane! It's hard to believe that this year of isolation is heading into the end of year holidays, but here we go!
This Sunday we will pray over all of the Operation Christmas Child boxes that have been prepared, so if you still need to drop off your shoebox, please do so by this Sunday! We are also finalizing orders for poinsettias. If you are interested in beautifying our Sanctuary for the Advent season please email or call the church office as soon as possible.
Many of you have noticed that we have been upgrading our online streaming for our services over the last few weeks. This is a tricky process, but hopefully we have worked out the problems and your experience will be enhanced in the near future. We are also preparing some special additions during the Advent season in hopes that our Harvester family stays connected in new ways.
With all that is going on, please continue to pray, give, and reach out to one another as we grow and rely on the blessings and grace of God to see us through! Know that I love and pray for all of you!!
Pastor Russ

From Pastor Gary
We've all heard the saying, "When it rains, it pours." I thought this as I sit in my car outside the dialysis office where my stepmom Daisy gets treated. I was just told that after her rehab place and Keystone had a conversation, she is not strong enough to make the move yet. My dad then called to let me know his blood pressure is really high and if they don't get him treated he's going to have a stroke. These are his words.
Lord, we know who controls the rain.  " 25 The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock."
Matthew 7:25
I am so happy that I have built my house on the ROCK! I would be in the looney bin right now if not. Have you built your house on the "ROCK"? The rock I am speaking of is Jesus Christ! Make a decision to build your life around Him and see where life takes you!
Go and Make Disciples!
Pastor Gary

Church Historian needed for Harvester!
Are you organized and creative, interested in our church's history, have the ability to gather information from various resources and have a servant heart? Then Church Historian could be the position for you!

We are seeking a volunteer to help to continue to maintain our church records by documenting, collecting and preserving materials from our activities, events, milestones and anniversaries! Much of the information is already provided to you through our weekly email newsletter the WOW and bulletin.

Collecting the information and coupling it with materials and/or photos would be all you need to be successful. If you are interested or would like more information, contact the church office at 813-948-2311 or harvesterumc@verizon.net or contact Cindy Kitchen at kitchen.family@verizon.net.

Students in Transition
(SIT Food Bags)

We are currently packing food bags each week for the children at Marlow Elementary who are at risk of going hungry over the weekends.
We are collecting individual pudding cups, pop tarts, fruit cups, applesauce, cheese & crackers, peanut butter & crackers, cereal bars, crackers, small canned chicken with pop tops and Vienna Sausage. (Individual peanut butter cups are not needed at this time.)

Thank you for your support!

Campus Ministry

We would like to reach out to our Harvester college students to let them know we love and care about them. The Sisters In Spirit are collecting notes and cards of encouragement, treats (gum, mints, lip balm), snacks (candy bars, cereal bars, trail mix, cookies), gift cards ($5 or $10 to Dunkin Donuts, Taco Bell, etc.) and anything that would let them know we are thinking of them and praying for them during the challenging time of exam week before winter break.

We have a bin in the church hallway and will be collecting items between now and November 29th. Your support is appreciated!
Advent Bible Study
Harvester Family, I will be leading a Bible Study during the Advent season called "Incarnation" by Adam Hamilton.  The class will be held on Wednesday's at 11:00 a.m. and 6:30 p.m.  You can attend either session and if you have to change times the next week, feel free.  The dates are December 2, 9, 16, and 23.  The class will be held using Zoom.
I know some of you say, "I don't do Zoom", but it is really easy to use and I will work with you to make it easy.  I am willing to come to your home to help you set it up, if need be.  Those that will need help setting up Zoom can email me at ghallam517@aol.com and then we will set up a time to call and walk through the process.  Having a computer with a camera is helpful, but you can also use your cell phone if needed.
Please email me and let me know if you are planning to join the class and then I can get a group email set up to make sure you get the Zoom info and can keep you up to date on any changes, the lesson for the week and so on.
If you are wanting to buy the book ahead of time, here is the ISBN # for your easy search.  You will need to purchase your own copy of the book and it can be found in a lot of places like Cokesbury, Amazon, Christianbook.com, Target, Barnes and Noble, and I am sure many more stores.   I saw where Target and Barnes and Noble have large print versions.  If you can not afford the book, let me know and I will ensure you get a copy.

Pastor Gary

I love our Harvester family!  We packed 66 boxes at our packing party two Sundays ago, and since then we've had about 30 more boxes come in that were packed by individuals at home.  I think we might have a few more out there, so I'm hoping we make it to 100.
Believe it or not, I'm already picking things up for our 2021 campaign.  WalMart had 50-packs of die-cast vehicles for $20, so I have 3 of those.  They also had 96-count Ticonderoga pencils for $4.97, so I bought 4 of those.  Mom has already started knitting soap sacks and I'll keep my eyes open on Amazon for when they have the Ivory Soap 10-packs on sale.  Many thanks to those folks who have given me cash over the last week or so which has enabled me to purchase these things.
If anyone wants to order soccer balls for next year, Western Star Balls is offering 15% off for OCC customers.  They can be ordered at www.westernstarballs.com and use OCCSpecial as your discount code.
I'll keep you posted if I hear of any other deals!
Thanks again for all your support!

OCC Project Leader

We are getting ready to order our
2021 Offering Envelopes

Many in our congregation are giving online but if you would still like to receive a box of 2021 Offering Envelopes, we will gladly order you a box. Please email us at harvesterumc@verizon.net if you would like us to add you to our order.

Ushers & Greeters Needed

Volunteers are needed at the 9am in person church service on Sunday mornings. If you are interested in serving, contact coordinators Lloyd and Claire Evans at 813-991-4523 or email them at d0naldduck9@yahoo.com or nunclaire@yahoo.

Gulfside Hospice is in need of
compassionate volunteers
With the governor lifting mandates and reopening the state, Gulfside Hospice is in desperate need of volunteers to serve our precious patients and families who have really struggled with isolation during this pandemic. As it takes unique people to serve with hospice, we are searching for those individuals with the heart and passion specific to walking with and supporting families through end-of-life transitions. They provide training specific in each role after completion of our orientation onboarding.
Immediate needs include:
New: Virtual Patient and Caregiver Support: Provide support virtually through Zoom, Skype, or phone from the safety of our office using our computers/phones. Tech support available if needed.  Full CDC guidelines are strictly adhered in our offices.
Patient and Caregiver Support: Provide "respite" time for caregivers to have a break; play card games, read scripture, pray with or over our precious ones, or just be a listening ear...
Musicians: Play for our patients at the Rucki Center in Zephyrhills and in care facilities around Pasco county. Music brings a unique comfort, peacefulness, and joy. No musical experience necessary for those who want to serve this way - we have dulcimer harps available and if you can strum, you can play.
Office/Administrative Support: Full CDC guidelines are strictly adhered in our offices with masks, screenings, distancing and temperature checks.
Crafters: Card-making parties in our secure offices (with distancing, masks, and CDC guidelines) or at home with online instruction, or create blankets, stuffies, or other items to comfort our patients.
Thrift Shops: process donations and assist customers. (please note: masks are required for all, but there will be a few customers that try not to comply)
They are searching for volunteers for all areas:
Grocery Pick up and Drop Off, deliver blankets and cards or even pet    food and supplies
          Light Housekeeping
          Support Animals to visit patients
Partnering with the We Honor Veterans program that connects   veteran volunteers with veteran patients
Singing and/or playing instruments to offer comforting music to   patients
Caregiver Support: To relieve patient caregivers to attend weekly support group sessions.
Providing spiritual care for patients by reading scriptures and praying with them
Visiting patients and families receiving hospice care in their home
Providing support to patients at the very end-of-life (Gift of Presence)
Please don't hesitate to call with any questions.
