Word of the Week
September 10, 2020
From The Pastor
What? Moving into the fall season?!
It's still hard for me to fathom how long we have been on "lock-down!" As we have entered September it's as if the entire 2020 year has flashed by while we have been in a socially distanced hibernation. For many of us it has indeed been an extremely stressful and challenging year. As we enter a new season with many of the same uncertainties for what lies ahead, I want us to cling to some specific things we can know are always certain.
This week I will begin a new series called, "Refocusing On What Matters Most." It will encourage us to focus on those things we do have control over, as well as to remember the One who is ultimately in control of all that we face. I've been working on my sermon notes for two weeks (Don't worry those of you who need to be done by 10am!), and hope you will be either in attendance or watching online this Sunday.
Since it looks like we will continue with the safety protocols for the remainder of this year, we are also looking at new and creative ways to celebrate our church family, Advent, and even Christmas Eve. All of this is in hopes that the Harvester family stays strong and as connected as possible as we move through this time together. May God bless you, and please know that I pray for and love you all!!

From Pastor Gary
I hope you are all having a peaceful week. I continue getting messages about the sermon on Sunday and am glad a number of you enjoyed it. The following URL is from a blog I used to find the 9 ways to find inner peace. It actually has 15, but I had to keep the sermon short.
I mentioned in the sermon that there are ways that Christians use to relax. I have chosen only a few:
1. Read Scripture or a devotion that contains scripture every day. Spend time with God every day and some days, do it all day! Charles Stanley says three things can bring you peace: Focus on God. Trust Him. Meditate on His Word.
2. Pray!!! Communicate with God. The more you spend time with Him, the closer you get to Him. When there is a closeness, everything you say and do goes through Him first. I pray for the day that I get to that point. One of the links I read about how to experience peace this week said: 10 Things Mentally Strong People Give Up to Gain Inner Peace 1. Engaging with toxic People. (Finding Christian people that you can be with is such a great way to bring peace into your life.)
3. Another way to experience peace is music. Music is one of the most important parts of my life. I like all kinds of music, but Contemporary Christian is my favorite. The song I shared I was listening to while going through the Smokies was Sandy Patti singing, "Was It a Morning Like This?" The most relaxing CD I have ever owned or listened to is "Sanctuary" by Twila Paris. Music can bring peace to you when you need it most.
4. You can also find peace in Christian movies, listening to Podcasts or reading blogs. I wanted to mention on Sunday to look at the scriptures I sent out for sermon notes. Do some research and find out what was going on at the time the verse was written and get an understanding of why it might have been used. I hope some of the information I gave you over this past week will give you some peace. If not, try Psalm 104:5.
God and Make Disciples!
Peace,                                                                                                              Pastor Gary

Shoe Boxes

Our Harvester Family is awesome! We had additional "spare change" this week that put us over the $450 needed to process our packing party boxes. Wahoo! Thank you all so much for helping us reach this goal. Any additional change we receive will be used to purchase needed items for the party boxes.
It was mentioned to me that some of our Harvester members might not be willing or able to get out to shop for items for the boxes. If you still want to help but aren't comfortable shopping, please let me know and I can shop for you, either online or socially-distanced and face-mask-protected in the stores. Contact me via email at jasass@hotmail.com or text me at 813-598-1783 and we can work this out between us.
Remember that our target group this year is 10-14 with the hope that we can pack 25 for each gender. Traditionally this is the most under-served age group so every box helps!
I'm hoping to have our packing party on a Sunday in Late October or early November outside the Youth entrance. We'll have the items spread out on tables for you to select for your box or boxes, so we'll be able to keep our distance from each other and still get them done. More info on this as details are finalized.
We'll have boxes available at the beginning of October for you to pack individually.  I'll let you know where and when they'll be available for pick up as soon as we get it figured out.
Here's an easy idea: I've assembled some "clothes line kits" using emptied plastic Crystal Light drink packet containers. Each kit includes 12 clothespins and about 20 feet of paracord. If you're interested in making some of these for our party, let me know and I can share the pictures, containers, and kit labels with you. Dollar Tree has packs of 36 wooden clothespins for $1.00 (in-store and online) and I have a load of paracord left over from Spencer's Scouting days that I can share as well.
I'm taking part in a virtual Project Leader webinar this Saturday and I'll be sure to share any more info that I get with you next week. Thanks again for your support!

This study will provide lay servants and others with scriptural foundations of Christian transformational leadership, as well as organizational effectiveness principles. The goal is to offer a framework to understand how we can be Christian transformational leaders in their churches, at work and in the world.

Harvester's 25th Anniversary begins December 2020! We will celebrate next year when we get a vaccine and it is safe to all be back together!

Our Daring Faith Team is working on special events and needs your help. We would like to collect pictures and "memories" from our church members from their time with Harvester - please think about any special, funny, touching moments you have had at Harvester or because of Harvester and share them by emailing to harvesterdaringfaith@gmail.com. We would also like to do some short video member interviews where members can talk about an experience with Harvester that can be compiled with others.

Please email harvesterdaringfaith@gmail.com if you are willing to participate. We would love a variety of content - Harvester helping you come to Christ (anyone take Pastor Gary's Evangelism class or Class 401?), memories of getting married/baptized, funny memories, memories of meeting lifetime friends, etc.

The Prayer Group will NOT be meeting on Friday mornings until further notice.  With the rise of Covid cases, we are trying to keep everyone safe.

Contact Larry Young and the prayer chain at 813-846-4342 if you have a prayer concern. We can all stay connected and pray for each other.
