From The Pastor
A couple of things...
First, this Sunday we will have the privilege of honoring our Scouts during the worship services. Troop 707 will be present during the 9am service, and Pack 323 will be at the 11am service. Both will begin the service by presenting the Colors and leading us in the Pledge of Allegiance. This will be a great time to celebrate all that our Scouts do in and for our church, so I hope you will be present and welcome and thank them this Sunday!
Also, we are in the process of creating a new sign for our church property. Many of you are familiar with the Harvester logo we have used on our ink pens, and letterhead for quite some time now. That logo will be on the new sign along with our service times. We are also adding, "Community Church" to the sign. We have done this for a few reasons. First, it is not to deny that we are a United Methodist Church. The sign will list our website as, harvesterumc.com, and there will be the cross and flame UMC symbol on the lower corner of the sign. Instead, we want people to recognize that we are intentionally here for the community. We want them to know this church is here for them! We have not "changed" the name of our church, but we are hoping to "re-brand" ourselves to let the community know something new is happening here!
Having noted the above, something new is certainly happening at Harvester and I am so glad to be a part of this process with you! May God continue to find us all faithful and excited about joining Him as we make disciples and reach this community for His glory! Remember that I love you!!
Harvester is trying to get it right!

From Pastor Gary
I plan to use this weeks WOW
to do a little teaching. Our sermon series is Don't Worry, Be Happy. Pastor Russ has been leading us through Matthew Chapter 5 as Jesus preaches his most famous sermon, The Sermon on the Mount. Jesus
giving his "Blessed Are" sermon, one we would call the Beatitudes. Luke also gives a version of the Beatitudes sermon, but if you look in Luke Chapter 6, you will notice that Luke only uses about half of what Matthew wrote about. Let's look at a couple of differences.
Matthew writes "Blessed are the poor in spirit for theirs is the kingdom of heaven." Luke writes, "Blessed are you who are poor, for yours is the kingdom of heaven."
Matthew also writes, "Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled." Luke wrote, "Blessed are you who hunger now, for you will be satisfied."
Scholars believe that Matthew was speaking to the wealthy and even educated Jews. They are not in need of daily staples, but they are in need of some spiritual guidance or remembering who blesses them. Luke's audience is literally the poor. He wants them to know they will find their treasures in heaven. Matthew speaks to his audience about being hungry and thirsty for God, while Luke is teaching his people about being filled when they reach their home with God.
Matthew's audience most likely could read or they knew someone who could read to them. The poor that Luke is sharing with might not have someone to read to them and this could be one reason he shortened the amount of beatitudes that he shared with them.
As Paul Harvey would say, "Now you know the rest of the story."
Go and Make Disciples!
This will be the last Sunday to help our children with their Heifer International Project. Please donate this Sunday and help children and families in less fortunate countries!
"Don't let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith and in purity."

Roof Campaign Update
from Debbi Isom
First year down and 2 to go! WOW! Praise be to God! We met the first year goal of $7,700 and slightly exceeded it so we are off to a super start for 2019! The weekly goal is $1 each Sunday per member. That's $52 a year. Some pay the whole year at once while others pay weekly or monthly. Either way it all adds up to the goal. Check out the model on the table outside the sanctuary to see the progress. Each post-it note roof tile equates to $100 raised for the new roof. We are so grateful to everyone for making the first year a success! The body of Christ at Harvester is doing great things to grow God's kingdom. Amen!
