"HIDDEN NO MORE"
Empowering Women Leaders in STEM
"I was the only girl in the room!"
|
|
"I was the only girl in the room! And I intended to change that."
Pretty much sums up the experiences of these 7 remarkable women leaders in STEM, and their determination to change things for girls and women in their countries. Their experiences - in Armenia, the Dominican Republic, Kyrgyz Republic, Mexico, Philippines, Tunisia & Zambia - were shared with over 100 high school and college students in Pinellas County, with scientists, researchers and librarians, and in a "community conversation" held at USF St. Petersburg Campus from October 29-November 2, 2022.
Their stories about their perseverance, and inspiring girls and women to become innovators, scientists and engineers perfectly captured the IVLP "Hidden No More" theme. The program is inspired by the film "Hidden Figures" about the women scientists and engineers at NASA whose work made possible the Apollo moonshot, but went unrecognized for decades. Hidden No More indeed! As one of the visitors noted "STEM is the great leveler of equal opportunity for women and girls". Read More...!

Palestinian Youth Innovators!
"Tech Talent 2022" Al Nayzak-WP Mission
Explores NASA, Disney & Tampa Bay Innovation
|
|
From August 13 – 20, 2022, seven “Tech Talent 2022” award winners and Al Nayzak team members traveled to Florida for a STEM education mission in collaboration with World Partnerships. First stop – NASA’s Kennedy Space Center! The group explored the history of space flight, from the first Goddard rocket experiments to the Apollo moon missions, the Space Shuttle program, and the International Space Station. They even caught a glimpse of the Artemis 1 unmanned moon rocket being readied for its first mission inside the historic Vehicle Assembly Building! And that was just the first day! These impressive, talented young innovators agreed it was truly a whirlwind "once-in-a-lifetime" experience.
Tech Talent 2022 was implemented by Al Nayzak in partnership with the U.S. Department of State's Office of Palestinian Affairs in Jerusalem and NASA, under the auspices of the Higher Council for Innovation and Excellence. Al Nayzak was founded by one of our distinguished World Partnerships alumni (2013), Mr. Aref Husseini, who was named one of the first US Department of State International Visitor Leadership Program "Gold Stars" for his tireless work to establish this organization, building STEM Education Centers in Jerusalem, Hebron, Nablus, Gaza, and Ramallah-Birzeit. Aref has opened six (6) centers with 60 employees and has educated and trained thousands of young students throughout the region in STEM disciplines. EXPLORE the whole mission here!

This unique “Global Moment in Time” year-long special initiative included a virtual component hosted by World Partnerships in October 2021 and an in-person component in October 2022. This group was so geographically diverse that we had to do two virtual programs in one morning/evening to capture all the participants!
For this in-person culmination of the year-long project, we welcomed 67 photojournalists from 51 countries for the in-person project (and they brought their cameras!) In the words of one photojournalist, echoed by the group, the most important outcome of this 12-month project was to discover "global mentors" and a worldwide peer network.
This program examined the role of photojournalism in civil discourse, public opinion, and public understanding of how COVID-19 has disrupted society, as well as how it has brought people, communities and organizations together...LEARN MORE!
