FROM THE WHITEHOUSE: Modernizing Defense Acquisitions and Spurring Innovation in the Defense Industrial Base

By the authority vested in me as President by the Constitution and the laws of the United States of America, it is hereby ordered:

Section 1Purpose. As Chief Executive and Commander in Chief, I am committed to ensuring that the United States military possesses the most lethal warfighting capabilities in the world. America’s defense industrial base is central to this effort. Similarly, the defense acquisition workforce is a national strategic asset that will be decisive in any conflict, where the factory floor can be just as significant as the battlefield.

Unfortunately, after years of misplaced priorities and poor management, our defense acquisition system does not provide the speed and flexibility our Armed Forces need to have decisive advantages in the future. In order to strengthen our military edge, America must deliver state‐of‐the‐art capabilities at speed and scale through a comprehensive overhaul of this system.

USPTO announces new group to mitigate threats to the patent system

Today, the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) announced creating a new group to expand the agency's efforts to mitigate threats and protect the integrity of the U.S. patent system.

The USPTO’s Patent Fraud Detection and Mitigation Working Group represents the agency’s continued commitment to limit improper activity in patent applications and reexamination proceedings at USPTO and reduce patent application pendency. As patent threats continue to evolve, the working group will focus on:

  • Addressing erroneous micro entity and small entity fee certifications and assertions
  • Monitoring suspicious filings
  • Identifying and reviewing potential misrepresentations to the USPTO, including false signatures, and when appropriate using the administrative sanctions process to address these misrepresentations

GSA Unveils OneGov Strategy to Transform How the Government Buys Goods and Services

Building on recent successes, new governmentwide strategy lowers costs and boosts efficiencies in acquisition

WASHINGTON — Today, the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) has launched its OneGov Strategy, a bold initiative aimed at modernizing how the federal government purchases goods and services. In this first phase, agencies will gain easier access to IT tools with standardized terms and pricing. Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEM) will benefit from a more direct and predictable engagement model while taxpayers will benefit from a smarter, more secure federal IT enterprise.

The OneGov Strategy reflects a shift in how the federal government approaches buying what it needs—not as a series of isolated purchases, but as a shared enterprise that powers everything from citizen services to national security. The initiative supports President Trump’s April 2025 Executive Order on ensuring commercial, cost-effective solutions in federal contracts.
