NEWS & UPDATES

WPI teams with the Department of the Navy during Milwaukee’s Navy Week

During Milwaukee’s Navy Week (July 17-21), over 45 people gathered at the Beyond Vision Visibility Center for the July 19th workshop, “Doing Business with the Department of the Navy (DON).” Ms. Stacy Cooper from the DON’s Office of Small Business Programs (OSBP) was the keynote speaker. Attendees heard about the Navy’s recent small business procurement achievements and future goals, how businesses can best position themselves to successfully sell to the DON, and DON programs such as the DON OSBP Mentor-Protégé program. In addition to Ms. Cooper, attendees also heard about business development programs from the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) and the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation (WEDC). Thank you also to the Society of American Military Engineers (SAME) Lake Michigan Post for providing the event refreshments.

If you missed the event but are interested in selling your goods or services to the DON, please reach out to us for no-cost technical assistance at apexaccelerator@wispro.org or 414-270-3600.

Recap of 17th Annual GOBC

The 17th Annual Wisconsin Government Opportunities Business Conference (GOBC) - COFFEE WITH THE COMMANDERs took place as a series of events at Wisconsin’s military installations: Volk Field Air National Guard Base (ANGB), Fort McCoy, and Truax Field. Briefings by base leadership and contracting personnel at each location focused on base operations, current opportunities and a forecast of potential contracting opportunities in years to come. A special thank you to the base leadership for hosting these events.

The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) presented on federal government small business certifications and the SBA Mentor-Protégé Program. Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) informed attendees regarding state-wide highway construction opportunities as well as the relevance that DBE-certified firms can exercise when seeking to do business with traditional prime contractors on highway contracts. Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation (WEDC) briefed attendees on a number of their programs including grant opportunities and programs for expanding international sales by Wisconsin-based companies.

GOBC Volk Field included information from the National Guard Chief of the Contracting Office on a current serious need for caterers / restaurants that can provide meals during Guard and Reserve training statewide. If you are interested in this opportunity contact Michael Steger at michaels@wispro.org for a copy of the requirement and if needed, assistance in getting registered in SAM.GOV

GOBC Truax Field spotlighted three prime contractors currently working on-base projects supporting the new arriving F-35s – prime contractor Findorff, HUBZone certified KPH Construction and SDB/WOSB Belonger Corporation.

The GOBC 2023 series was presented and supported by Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation (WEDC), by the Wisconsin Procurement Institute (WPI), by Juneau County Economic Development Corporation (JCEDC), and by the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA).

Contact Michael Steger by email (Michaels@wispro.org) or by telephone (414) 270-3600 for additional information regarding this year’s GOBC events and upcoming conference opportunities.

Next year’s GOBC series will be scheduled during the summer of 2024 – updates will be posted at https://wigobc.org/
