People of Color
To Explore The Legacy of Lynching

An exodus by Twin Ports residents, calling themselves The Alabama 35, to the National Memorial for Peace and Justice will be featured on a special episode of
People of Color at 6 p.m., Thursday, June 14
on the Ideas Network stations 90.9 - Ashland and 91.3 - Superior.
In late April, nearly three dozen Twin Ports residents from all walks of life gathered at the Clayton Jackson McGhie Memorial in Duluth to board a bus for an extraordinary 2,446-mile journey. Their destination: Montgomery, Ala., for the opening of the National Memorial for Peace and Justice (pictured), a moving, interactive monument detailing the gruesome, systematic lynchings of African Americans in the century following the Civil War -- including in Duluth.
Traveling with them was Henry Banks, host of Wisconsin Public Radio's People of Color and co-founder of the Duluth memorial that predates the national edifice by 15 years. Join Banks and the group in uncovering a nation's horrific past, and the inspiring story of how Duluth's recognition of its most infamous incident can serve as model toward righting a legacy of injustice. The program is produced by Banks and Robin Washington.

Cold, clear Lake Superior provides the best brewing water on Earth."
Very quickly after opening, Earth Rider Brewing became a business sponsor of Wisconsin Public Radio.
