Alumni Holiday Party Recap
Y’all sure do know how to party! We had a total of 85 alumni come out to our holiday party last month! Thanks for closing out 2019 with us - we had a great time catching up with everyone. Jobs and Professional Development Opportunities
WPSI Specialists
If you are interested in being a pioneer in our alumni outreach efforts, sign up to become a WPSI Specialist! WPSI Specialists will receive the paid opportunities to speak on WPSI’s behalf and other opportunities to organize events specifically for our alumni.

In this role, you can expect:
  • To Get Paid - Receive compensation for public speaking events on behalf of WPSI. Engage with local residents at recruitment events, current participants, or potential funders and employers by sharing facts about WPSI and your experience in the program
  • To Volunteer - Assist the WPSI team with coordinating events for WPSI alumni. Help the WPSI team implement and advertise events and programming specifically for our alumni
  • To Engage – Participate in community advocacy, professional development, and mentoring. Specialized training will be provided to WPSI Specialists 
Through this work we hope to foster connections amongst our alumni and introduce West Philadelphia residents to WPSI. If you are interested in attending our monthly meetings, reach out to Tiffany .
Penn Medicine: Open Community Health Worker Positions
Penn Medicine will be hiring for several Community Health Worker Positions in January. They are looking for people who are natural helpers and have a intimate knowledge of community resources. Tech Impact: Technology Training Program for IT Careers
Tech Impact’s ITWorks program is a free 16-week technology training program that prepares young adults, 18-26, for entry-level jobs in IT. ITWorks students receive 11 weeks of technical training in the classroom, plus a 5-week, hands-on internship in a help desk environment at a local corporation or non-profit. Throughout the program, students also receive over 100 hours of professional development training with volunteers from local corporations like WSFS, Accenture, Oracle, SAP, and more. Eligible applicants must be 18-26 years old, must have a HS diploma or GED, cannot have completed a 4-year degree, and must be interested in technology. Interested applicants can apply online at itworks.org/apply . They are currently accepting applications for their Spring 2020 semester, which begins the last week of February.
FREE Job Training for Young Men Impacted by Violence: Community Health Worker/Certified Peer Specialist Dual Certification
The Center for Nonviolence and Social Justice at Drexel University has developed a FREE, PAID job training program for men ages 18-30 with lived experience of violence to receive dual certification as Community Health Workers and Certified Peer Specialists. This program is a good fit for young men interested in becoming healers and helpers in their communities and entering the human service or healthcare fields. 
 
The basic requirements for eligibility are:
  • identify as male
  • ages 18-30
  • lived experience of violence (either to themselves or someone close to them)
  • HS diploma or GED
  • willing to commit to 9 weeks of training (4 days per week, Monday, Tuesday Wednesday, Thursday)
