President's Message

“Rejoice in the Lord alway: and again I say, Rejoice.” – Philippians 4:4

“For the Lord God is a sun and shield: The Lord will give grace and glory: No good thing will he withhold from them that walk uprightly.” – Psalm 84:11

Ministry Corner

By Lorenzo Peterson, WPU Chaplain

1 Peter 2:9-14

It is crucial to understand the importance of your calling and assignment. Each one of us has been consecrated and set apart for the Lord’s use. You are valuable! Family Ties Run Deep Between the Whiteheads and WPU Warner Pacific

Board of Trustees member Michael Guzman; Professor Emeritus and 1964 Alumnus Ed Whitehead; 1964 Alumna and event pianist, Jane Whitehead; and President Brian Johnson at the WPU 2024 Convocation

The connection between Ed and Jane Whitehead and Warner Pacific University started before they attended more than 60 years ago and continues to the present. Their three sons, and their wives, are all Warner alums and their granddaughter recently entered the nursing program.

They returned to WPU on August 27 for the convocation ceremony where Jane once again played the piano her mother, Eleanor Newcomb, helped raise funds to purchase. Jane performed both her junior and senior piano recitals on that piano in 1963 and 1964…

WPU Alum Finds Joy in Volunteering

Getting through nursing school is tough, but it’s possible. That’s one of the messages Yodit Tesfaluel hopes to convey to the students she connects with at Warner Pacific University’s skills lab, where she volunteers.

A 2022 graduate, Tesfaluel knows how meaningful that help and encouragement can be.

“There are three professors that played a huge role for me,” Tesfaluel said. “Kyle VanderSchick, Jessica Sandstrom and Fernanda Fortuna. They played such a pivotal role when I was in nursing school.”

Tesfaluel learned about WPU’s nursing program from her mentor while she was at Portland State University. She was in cohort five of the nursing program, so it was still pretty new, she said…
