Dear WPU Community,

Our graduates have crossed the stage – literally and figuratively! In my last monthly message, I shared how the university was getting ready to celebrate this most exciting time of year, and the culminating point of our collective efforts as a learning community. I assure you, the work of our students and their commitment to Christ-centered education at Warner Pacific as paid off! These new leaders now take their place as men and women well-equipped to be servant-leaders in our community. I’m so thankful for all the faculty, staff, parents, friends, siblings, community members, business partners and more that poured into our graduates. I hope you enjoy the fantastic photos we have assembled for your viewing in this e-newsletter! After all, whether you personally knew someone graduating this year or not, it is your interest in WPU that continues to pave the way for our continued work. Graduation is something we can ALL celebrate!

Now that our graduates have crossed their personal stages, I too am embarking on some exciting plans I wish to share with our community. This summer, I’ll be representing WPU on the national stage. Here’s an overview of my activitiesâ€Šï»ż

WPU Launches New Strategic Plan, “A Vision With Purpose”

Warner Pacific University announced the launch of its new strategic plan, “A Vision With Purpose: The Strategic Plan for Warner Pacific University,” which will guide WPU’s efforts over the next five years. The plan was unanimously approved by the University’s Board of Trustees during their Spring Board Meeting.

With “A Vision With Purpose,” WPU will undertake 12 key objectives designed to support three key areas of mission fulfillment: (1) “WPU Today” – Serving students with quality, missional academic experience that leads to success; (2) “WPU Tomorrow” – Advancing enrollment growth, campus improvement, resource development and reputational strength; (3) “WPU Always” – Engaging internal staff and faculty, and our external stakeholders, to bring forward their best skills and work collaboratively in support of our uncommon mission. Together, all three of these areas are in service to our most important aspiration of all: “To express the love of Jesus Christ through excellent care and service to our learning community and to our world

Warner’s Newest Class of Nurses Receive Their Pins

Taking their place in a tradition that dates back more than a century, Warner Pacific University’s eighth cohort of nursing students were recognized during the Division of Nursing’s Pinning Ceremony on May 10.

“The Pinning Ceremony is unique to nursing,” said Linda Campbell, Dean and Professor of Nursing.

It is modeled after the ceremony in which Florence Nightingale received the Red Cross of St. George for her service during the Crimean War, according to the American Association of Colleges of Nursing. It marks a student’s completion of education and transition into the profession

Nursing students, need some encouragement? These women are here to help.

A new mentoring program aims to encourage and support nursing students through their educational journey.

“The idea of mentoring at nursing started before Covid in a conversation with Linda Campbell, followed by a long delay and then we returned to the idea early last winter,” said Monica Monroe, who leads the nursing student mentoring program. “It was in (her) heart as shown through her experience, that students can benefit from mentors who are not faculty or staff but can enter the setting as ‘neutral’ supporters and people they can go to with concerns or frustrations

Students' Educational Path Rooted in his Christ-Centered Upbringing

The Christ-centered community and being able to build connections with people are among Richie Bailey’s favorite aspects of being student Warner Pacific University.

“I believe the community, and how close-knit it is, makes (WPU) stand out,” Bailey said.

Part of his own involvement in the WPU community comes through playing on the men’s soccer team and being on the Chapel Team.

“We help people sign in and just pray with people,” he said. “We help people with their relationship with Christ. I lead a men’s bible study

Ysu Umbalo Answers His Calling

Ysu Umbalo’s journey to Lusaka, Zambia was not one he anticipated during his time at Warner Pacific University, but he accepted the call. Now an elder at Emmanuel Fellowship Ministries International (EFMI), he’s inviting other WPU alumni to support the work they are doing.
