Career Exploration & Training (CET)

Connecting students to life-altering career development opportunities through meaningful paid internship experiences.

WPY's Teen Mental Health Alliance interns hosted a Beyond the Screen event for their peers in February. Students are pictured playing Flag That! and identifying healthy and unhealthy relationship behaviors.

WPY's Teen Mental Health Alliance (TMHA) first semester cohort concluded their internship by hosting an event titled Beyond The Screen, which focused on addressing phone use among Waltham teens. Student attendees were challenged to leave their phones in their bags as they participated in a red flag/green flag game about healthy behaviors in relationships, created their own vision boards to set goals for the upcoming year, and engaged in discussion about student phone usage and mental wellbeing. Great work, TMHA interns!

This year's second cohort of the Teen Mental Health Alliance started this month. The students will be trained in Teen Mental Health First Aid before eventually putting together a community project of their own.

The CET team is also gearing up for WPY's Summer Internship Program! They are staying busy with employer partner outreach and preparing for this summer. Students who plan to apply must attend a Bentley Career Success Institute resume/cover letter support session. Are you an adult that works for a company or non-profit organization that may be interested in hosting a WPY summer intern this year? If that sounds like you, please email medjine@walthampartnershipforyouth.org help us meet the growing demand for more internship placements this summer! Find more information in the "Opportunities for Youth & Community Members" section at the bottom of our newsletter!

Ready? Set? Job!

WPY recently hosted our ninth annual Ready? Set? Job! career readiness conference for students. Over 30 Waltham high school students joined WPY on a Saturday to participate in workshops on creating and optimizing their LinkedIn profiles, developing leadership skills, and practicing interview skills.

Shoutout to all of our workshop facilitators: Annabelle Surrey of WPY's Board of Directors, Will Capriola of WPY's staff, and Bentley University Leadership Academy students. And thank you to the ten adult volunteers who joined us for the resume writing portion of the day. Students appreciated hearing about your career journeys, while also getting 1-1 support with crafting their resumes.

Thank you to our community partners at Brookhaven at Lexington for hosting us in their beautiful space for the third year in a row!

Wraparound Waltham

Collaborating to create a community of belonging and opportunity for newcomer immigrant students and their families.

Our incredible partners from National Grid, who host monthly office hours at WPY's Welcome Center.

The Wraparound team kept busy in February! Wraparound Program Manager, Alexa Cuellar, and WPY's Family & Student Engagement Senior Coordinator, Marlen Godinez, presented to Waltham Public Schools' Family Liaisons to share more about WPY's Wraparound programming and affiliated resources. Family Liaisons learned how to connect families to WPY's Welcome Center and about available resources like caregiver affidavits, food pantries, clothing donations, affordable internet services, MassHealth insurance enrollment, and more.

The Welcome Center hosted representatives from National Grid and the Department of Transitional Assistance this month. Thank you to both organizations for supporting newcomer families in Waltham!
