November was a month of opportunity for our Teen Mental Health Alliance Peer Leaders! These students are not only leaders for their Peer Associates in the Teen Mental Health Alliance, but they are youth leaders in Massachusetts, as well. Earlier this month, these students attended a networking and team-building youth summit in Boston, led by Sparkshare. Sparkshare is a non-profit organization that provides a network and resources that to help empower young people to address challenges in their communities.

Highlights of the summit included the WPY Peer Leaders building a network of fellow young change-makers and finding ways to collaborate between towns and missions. They also developed their public speaking skills and discussed their leadership values, which included "Diversity," "Harmony," and "Success." The Peer Leaders will take what they learned and practice it throughout their school-year internship program.

School-year Wraparound programming is now in full swing! At the high school level, WPY staff have been visiting Waltham Valor High School to lead teen Mental Health First Aid (TMHFA) as part of the school's health curriculum. WPY team members will be leading these sessions in Spanish and English so that students develop skills to identity mental health challenges in themselves and others, and learn when to seek support from trusted adults.

Welcome Classes are well underway at both Kennedy and McDevitt Middle Schools. This month, WPY community partner Doc Wayne began to offer sports-based therapy at Kennedy Middle School. WPY's Family & Student Engagement Coordinator, Bebelin Galvez, will be attending these sessions to be a friendly face and trusted adult for Welcome Class students participating in Doc Wayne sessions.
