Career Exploration & Training (CET)

Connecting students to life-altering career development opportunities through meaningful paid internship experiences.

The Career Exploration and Training Team continues to prepare for the School-Year Internship Program with outreach and interviews. The team spent time at the new Waltham High School this month, sharing information about the program in classrooms and during lunch. The Teen Mental Health Alliance Peer Leaders joined our outreach efforts by leveraging their connections with afterschool clubs and during advisories to present about WPY and encourage their peers to join the Teen Mental Health Alliance.

In addition to outreach, the CET team and Peer Leaders have begun conducting interviews for the various internship placements. This is the first time our peer leaders have been interviewers, which has been a valuable professional development experience for them! When asked about their experience being on the other side of the interviewing table, here's what they had to say:

  • BEMSI: It's been out of my comfort zone, but I adapted really quickly. I was able to ask my peers about their thoughts on the state of mental health today. The candidates gave really great answers. This experience put me in the mind of an interviewer, and now I know how to prepare for my interviews in the future. Every time I'm applying for a job or going to an interview, I'll think, "What would an interviewer think about this?"

  • PRIYA: I was nervous at first and worried that it would get awkward or that there would be silence, but it has been fun! Seeing other people's resumes and cover letters made me realize things I'd want to change for my own cover letter.

  • MATTISON: I think it has been insightful. I had the privilege of being in their position last year, so I now know what to expect. Being an interviewer is really helping me to prepare for my future interviews. Also, reading through other cover letters made me realize my own growth.

Wraparound Waltham 2023-2024 Program Report

We're pleased to share the Wraparound Waltham 2023-2024 Program Report!

Check out the report to learn more about Wraparound's team, community partners, impact, and success stories.

October was all about partnership for the Wraparound Waltham team! WPY's Welcome Center Coordinator, Marlen Godinez, joined the Stanley Elementary School Resource Fair to share information about the Welcome Center with newcomer families and parents. Meanwhile, Dave LeBlanc, our Wraparound Middle School Program Coordinator, tabled at the McDevitt Middle School Health Fair, where he led an activity to facilitate feedback and communication between middle school students and adults in the building.

Our Wraparound team hosted a Community Partner Meet and Greet this month! This event was an opportunity for WPY-funded community partners, school personnel, service providers, and other remarkable community organizations that have worked with Wraparound to come together, continue to build relationships, and learn more about the resources available in Waltham for our newcomer students and families. Check out the photo gallery down below to learn more.

Alexa Cuellar, Wraparound's Senior Program Coordinator, also introduced the 2023-2024 Wraparound Program Report. To read the report and learn more about Wraparound's impact, click here or visit the link above.
