McMaster offers sincere condolences to Indigenous communities
It is with tremendous sadness that we have learned of the discovery and further exploration of hundreds of unmarked graves of Indigenous children at the site of a former residential school in Saskatchewan.

This is another heartbreaking reminder for all of us to take stock of historic truths, and to offer our deepest sympathies and support to Indigenous communities.

Coming so soon after the horrific discovery of 215 children’s remains at the former Kamloops Residential School, and as we observe National Indigenous History Month, this is a moment to acknowledge how the legacies of these past actions along with present day forms of systemic racism and colonialism persist, and to reinforce commitments to meaningfully address calls to action towards reconciliation within our educational institutions and in society.

Pauline Dawson will take over electives activity moving forward, as Christina Chan is preparing to welcome her baby.

“In the year 2020 and 2021, the world has seen a devastating display of structural racism and racism in healthcare. For a second time, the PFD Watch Party Hosted by WRC will feature a recording spotlighting anti-racism. This time, we have chosen a production from the College of Family Physicians of Canada which originally aired on July 22nd, 2020 about structural racism, interpersonal racism, and internalized racism. In two installments, this will certainly be a difficult, uncomfortable, and meaningful conversation to listen to; by watching this together, we hope to create space for, and give permission to a similar dialogue amongst our own co-facilitators and participants.

"Are You Vulnerable?" - Sexual Violence in the Clinical Setting, a PCL Educational Solution

Health professionals are familiar with clinician – patient professionalism boundaries and behaviours. How do these codes of conduct apply to teachers in healthcare professional education? How can teachers model and teach professionalism to the learner, while ensuring that the teaching approach is appropriate? How can teachers protect themselves, and their learners from harm? The Waterloo Regional Campus of McMaster University and the School of Pharmacy at the University of Waterloo have created and produced 6 modules on “professionalism in clinical learning”. They aim to familiarize HPE teachers with important concepts, recognize traps and pitfalls, and equip them with skills and strategies to enhance professional conduct in the clinical learning environment. In this live workshop, we review in detail module 6, “Sexual Violence: Identification and Prevention”.
