Software Product Vision

Our vision for this project is to create a greenfield attribute tracking software that is accurate, effortless, and empowering — a tool that saves time, reduces stress, builds trust, and provides users with a seamless experience.

Software Launch Date Update

Following a collaborative review among WREGIS users, our team at WECC, and our development partner Atomic Object, we are announcing an updated launch date for the new WREGIS software: February 17, 2027.

This date reflects the shared priorities and feedback collected through the recent user survey regarding year-end compliance deadlines and scheduling needs and our joint assessment with Atomic Object of the development timeline to support a successful rollout of the software’s Phase 1 features and required system functionality.

We will continue to keep stakeholders informed as we develop and prepare for the new WREGIS software platform.

Software Launch Forum Update

The WREGIS Software Launch Forum (SWLF) met on Tuesday, July 19. During this meeting, they heard about new functionality being built for Generator Registration. Improvements include more specific questions around registration rights to make it easier for both customers and system administrators to determine appropriate documentation. This makes the process smoother and easier to navigate. SWLF members also heard from Atomic Object about user testing, which commenced earlier this month and will continue over the coming months. Those interested in joining the testing pool should fill out the Software Testing Interest Form and submit it to wregishelp@wecc.org.

WREGIS Training Tip: Qualifying Facilities

The Public Utility Regulatory Policies Act of 1978 (PURPA) is a U.S. federal law that created a special class of generator called a Qualifying Facility (QF). Under PURPA, generators that meet these criteria may be eligible for certain rights and benefits that may vary by individual states. (Generators located in Canada do not qualify under PURPA).

If your generator is a QF under PURPA, you can indicate it on your generator registration by choosing “Yes” and entering the generator QF docket number. Listing a generator as a QF is optional and does not appear on certificates. If you choose to mark your generator as a QF, you must supply supporting documentation, such as an email response from FERC or a screenshot of the entry in the FERC eLibrary database. A FERC Form 556 application is not considered sufficient supporting documentation for WREGIS purposes. Substantially Completed Features

Western Renewable Energy Generation Information System (WREGIS) is an independent, web-based tracking system for renewable energy certificates (REC), predominantly in the West. WREGIS is a WECC non-statutory program.
