Software Product Vision

Our vision for this project is to create a greenfield attribute tracking software that is accurate, effortless, and empowering — a tool that saves time, reduces stress, builds trust, and provides users with a seamless experience.

Software Launch Forum-Seeking Applicants

WREGIS is inviting members of our stakeholder community to join the Software Launch Forum (SWLF). The new group will play a key role as we roll out the new custom platform. The SWLF is designed to make the development process more transparent, build stakeholder confidence and trust, and get users and stakeholders excited about the improved platform.

The SWLF will be comprised of eight members and will provide additional visibility into the project progress, milestones, and user interface. They include:

  • SAC chair
  • One WREGIS Committee member
  • Two state program administrators
  • Two qualified reporting entities
  • Two general customers

We are looking for stakeholders who have extensive experience with the current system. To be eligible, applicants must have an active WREGIS login, sign a non-disclosure agreement, and be committed to attending monthly meetings through the end of 2026.

The Software Launch Forum Interest Form is available on the WREGIS website. If you are interested, please fill out the application and return it to wregisadmin@wecc.org by March 20.

Draft 2027 WREGIS Budget

The WREGIS 2027 draft budget reflects a $2.1 million increase compared to 2026, mainly driven by planned investments in staffing, consulting, and technology needs. Major budget drivers include:

  • Three new positions and the upgrade of several existing roles to support the organization’s growth
  • Consulting and software costs for Phase 2 of the software project and separation activities
  • Temporary costs for CleanCounts software licensing fees and an overhead allocation, totaling $2.5 million, which will not recur in 2028. Without these costs, the 2027 budget would be aligned with the current projections for first-year operations as a stand-alone entity

Increased activity levels are expected to generate more revenue from user fees, which is expected to offset the higher budget. A portion of WREGIS’s existing working capital reserves will also be used to fund the proposed budget.

Additional details are available in WECC’s March 10 Finance and Audit Committee meeting materials.

Training Tip: Submitting a Generator for Approval

Make generator approvals go smoothly by submitting a complete documentation package. Here is what to keep in mind:

  • All uploaded documentation must be legible, signed, and include all pages and amendments.
  • Generation registration documentation requirements are outlined here.
  • Remember to use the WREGIS “Save” feature while you gather documentation and information to avoid losing any work.
  • Once everything is uploaded and completed, select “Submit Generator” in the top-right corner of the screen to start the review process.

For more information, see the Generator Registration Guide.

Western Renewable Energy Generation Information System (WREGIS) is an independent, web-based tracking system for renewable energy certificates (REC), predominantly in the West. WREGIS is a division of WECC.
