Women on the Water Returns to Missoula!

Reflections on WOW Year One!

WRFI is pleased to let you know that our inaugural Women on the Water course was a great success! This group of wonderful women spent a week on the Missouri River Breaks together, learning about navigating the water, the geology surrounding them, waterway conservation, and much more! We want to extend our gratitude to this crew for making the leap with us on this new adventure! We're encouraged by the enthusiasm for our new adult courses and look forward to welcoming anyone who is interested in these unique experiences in 2025!

"For me, being on the water paddling the Missouri was a long time goal, so that is what I’d say was my personal high point. But, the women on the trip were great and I really enjoyed learning from all of them. I think the readings and the discussions, which resulted on many deeper ways to consider these issues will be the lasting effect of this trip."

Fresh From the Field: Luke Ilfeld

Living with the Land

Our Cycle the Rockies students were lucky enough to meet Montana rancher Steve Charter this summer, who has been vocal in his battle with a nearby coal company who wants his land. The conversation between him and the WRFI students was eye-opening, especially for Luke, author of today's featured blog post.

"As our group sat in Steve’s living room and listened to his story pour out of him, it became clear that his struggle to protect his land was far deeper than ranching and far deeper than himself. He revealed to us with shaky breath that the land to him was sacred, older than him and the generations before him."

Read Luke's blog post, “Living with the Land” for more of Luke's thoughts on his visit to Steve's ranch. Follow the link below!

WRFI would like to extend a huge congratulations to our Student Experience Manager, Kelsey, who completed the Run the Rut 50k this past weekend! This notoriously difficult race is held each year in Big Sky, Montana, and includes a grueling trail with over 10,000ft of elevation gain/loss. This is an awesome accomplishment that Kelsey has been training hard for, and we could not be more proud of her! 🎉
