2026 Rules Preview
Work towards the 2026 ruleset is well underway, once again WRL remains completely focused on bringing you the absolute best in value, competition, innovation and sustainability. Entering our 12th year, WRL has invested massively into our ruleset and technology, blazing our own trail and establishing ourselves through innovation, hard work and feedback from our competitors. The key to sustainability is a predictable and consistent ruleset, something we remain committed to - with that in mind, expect changes to be minor, with a focus on minimizing actual "work" or expense required for compliance.
Outline of anticipated rule changes:
The below is subject to change, but offers an indication of direction for '26.
General Rules: Minor procedural changes, clarifying language where needed. Further development of data collection requirements as WRL continues to invest in professional, on-site data analysis & scrutineering across all classes that began at COTA 2025.
General Production: Minor updates to GP modifier tables and clarifying language where needed. Expect a public list of approved "factory racecars" and the class(es) they're approved for - cars not listed must be approved - approval is contingent on alignment with the existing pace, perception and value propositions of the respective classes. GP3 class is being reviewed due to lack of participation & teams moving to GP2 or GP1.
GTO: Utilizing data collected during the 2024 and 2025 season relating to the application of award modifiers and their effect on performance in GTO, WRL will be moving to a per-chassis and adjustable performance modifier to address disparities between cars. Each approved chassis for GTO will be listed along with a modifier that may be changed during the year, quarterly or on a per-race basis TBA. Cars not listed must be approved - approval is contingent on alignment with the existing pace, perception and value propositions of the respective classes. Our experience with the GP classes, award modifiers and significant data collection shows that modifiers are absolutely required to balance performance between chassis in GTO, control costs, and make as many cars competitive as possible in a power to weight environment. We are completely confident this step will lead to a new era of competition within the already exceptional GTO class.
GTU: Hoosier Radial Wet W2 added as the sole approved wet tire for GTU only to address cold-weather performance issues on these light chassis. Continental / Hoosier will offer at track delivery and free mounting / balancing of these and other Continental / Hoosier products. Work towards the approval of several popular open-top prototype chassis is in process to encourage additional growth to this already popular class. Per-chassis performance modifiers may be introduced with this in mind similar to GTO table mentioned above. Cars not listed must be approved - approval is contingent on alignment with the existing pace, perception and value propositions of the respective classes.
