Chai Society Shabbat and Brotherhood Award

Join us for Kabbalat Shabbat as we honor members of long standing whose dedication and devotion to WRT has been so vital to its success. We will also honor the enduring commitment of WRT volunteers to tikkun olam, including this special opportunity to recognize those who participated in the Menorah Project.

We will also be presenting the Brotherhood Award to Jonathan I. Mark and B. Kathleen Munguía. Jon serves on WRT's Executive Committee, is a former Scarsdale Mayor and Scarsdale Forum president, and jokes his volunteer life began as BK's husband. BK has devoted decades to Girl Scouts, and served as president of the Scarsdale Forum and Teen Center, and on multiple civic boards.

Torah Study

Saturday, May 30 at 9:00 am 

Join us every Saturday morning as we gather for a brief service, nosh, and lively discussion of our weekly Torah portion. Our service is clergy led and features moments of gratitude, healing and remembrance. Following some snacking and schmoozing, we come back together for engaging Torah study. All are welcome and no experience is necessary.

Rabbi Amichai Lau-Lavie, star of the award-winning documentary Sabbath Queen (Tribeca 2024) and Co-Founding Spiritual Leader of NYC's Lab/Shul, joins WRT for Kabbalat Shabbat. Following services, Rabbi Alissa Platcow will lead a conversation with Rabbi Lau-Lavie and filmmaker Sandi DuBowski on LGBTQ+, Jewish identity, and community.

Sabbath Queen with Conversation Following

Filmed over 21 years, Sabbath Queen follows Rabbi Amichai Lau-Lavie — heir to 38 generations of Orthodox rabbis — as he navigates drag, family, and founding NYC's Lab/Shul. Called "awe-inspiring" by The Hollywood Reporter and lauded by the NY Times, the film is rarely screened. Don't miss this special opportunity!

Trembling Before G-d with Conversation Following

Trembling Before G-d is a groundbreaking documentary exploring the profound struggle of LGBTQ+ Hasidic and Orthodox Jews to reconcile their deep love of Judaism with biblical prohibitions against homosexuality. Through intimate personal stories, the film challenges assumptions about faith, sexuality, and religious fundamentalism in a deeply moving and eye-opening way.

Kabbalat Shabbat Service with Special Guest, Eric Ward

Friday, June 19 at 6:15 pm

We are thrilled to welcome special guest and thought leader on antisemitism and racism, Eric K. Ward, who will join our Juneteenth service and conversation afterward. One of America's foremost voices on authoritarianism and multiracial democracy, Eric is Executive Vice President of Race Forward, a Southern Poverty Law Center fellow, and the first American awarded the Civil Courage Prize.

Westchester's "Shalom Yisrael" has for 25+ years brought Israeli volunteers and social workers to New York to build bonds with the American Jewish community. This October, six women will visit for 10 days — touring Jewish institutions, New York highlights, and a Broadway show.

We're seeking one or two WRT families to host a guest. Hosts provide home hospitality and dinners; days are free except Shabbat. Many hosts maintain lasting friendships with their guests.
