Kabbalat Shabbat Service

Friday, October 3 at 6:15 pm (in-person in the Sanctuary)


Shabbat service features the rituals, melodies and warmth of our congregation. The service includes a sermon or presentation by one of our rabbis, cantors, or special guests. Participate alongside fellow congregants in-person, or join us on any of our live-streaming platforms.

Sharing Shabbat

Torah Study

Saturday, October 4 at 9:00 am (in-person at WRT or Zoom) 

 

Join us every Saturday morning as we gather for a brief service, nosh, and lively discussion of our weekly Torah portion. Our service is clergy led and features moments of gratitude, healing and remembrance. Following some snacking and schmoozing, we come back together for engaging Torah study. All are welcome and no experience is necessary.

Yom Kippur Food Drive

Now through October 3rd


Don't forget to bring your paper bag filled with non-perishable food donations to WRT. Most needed items include brown or white rice, whole grain pasta, shelf-stable milk, canned vegetables, peanut butter, whole grain cereal, canned or dried fruit, and/or canned meals. Your filled bag can be brought to the bin located in the back parking lot closest to the ECC playgrounds. All items will be donated to Feeding Westchester.

Meditation with Norm Goldstein

Westchester Commemorates October 7

Join together as a community for a commemoration marking two years since the attacks of October 7, 2023 - to remember, to stand united and to honor the lives that have been lost.

Welcome Sukkot at WRT with Israeli Artist Zoya

Monday, October 6 at 6:00 pm (at WRT)


World-renowned Zoya Cherassky-Nnadi is a celebrated Ukrainian- Israeli artist, born in Kyiv in 1976, who emigrated to Israel in 1991. Her astonishing depictions of the attacks of October 7th have earned her international recognition, with her works being likened to Picasso’s dramatic wartime tableau Guernica.


At a gallery exhibition of her paintings, come meet the artist in conversation with our WRT congregant Ruth Suzman. Our evening will begin with a brief and joyful service in the Sukkah, followed by a delicious dinner and then join us for conversation with the artist and gallery walk.

Sukkot Festival Service and Harvest Luncheon

Tuesday, October 7 at 10:30 am (at WRT)


Enter our beautiful Sukkah (weather permitting) for a musical and meditative service reflecting the themes of the harvest holiday, followed by a homemade lunch. In the WRJ tradition, please let us know on the RSVP form if you are able to bring a homemade dish to add to our bountiful Sukkot harvest table. RSVPs required for lunch by September 30th. Memorial Prayers on the Yahrzeit of October 7th will be offered.

Caregiver Support Group

Wednesday, October 8 at 11:30 am (at WRT)


Caring for an aging or infirm loved one requires tremendous reservoirs of spiritual and emotional strength and resilience. It can feel lonely, burdensome, and depleting of one’s time and energy. This fall, WRT will offer another cycle of its support group for congregants who are providing care for loved ones of any generation. Skillfully guided by Cantor Laura Stein, LCSW, and Jane Slevin, LMFT, who led this group last year in addition to the Temple's Bereavement Support Groups, this four-session program will provide a safe and confidential space for those working through the difficulties of Living with Care in a mutually supportive environment. 


To foster a supportive and cohesive environment, we ask that members commit to attending all sessions or a minimum of 3 out of the 4 meetings. Upcoming dates - October 15, 22 & 29.

Ushpizot

Thursday, October 9, from 7:00 pm - 9:30 pm (at WRT)


Please join WRJ for our Ushpizot fall harvest dinner. Weather-permitting, we will begin the evening with cocktails and light hors d’œuvres outside before congregating in the sukkah for a short service led by Cantor Kleinman. We will then enjoy a festive potluck dinner in the social hall. This annual celebration has been one of our most popular events of

the year; you don’t want to miss it!

Kabbalat Shabbat with Special Guest, Captain Nechemya Danzig (IDF)

Friday, October 10 at 6:15 pm (at WRT)


At services and in the Sukkah, we will be joined by Captain Nechemya Danzig, who served as a company commander in the IDF Paratroopers Brigade. Prior to October 7, Captain Danzig served two years on the Gaza border and later as a commander in officer school, where he trained new officers. On October 7, 2023, he was among the first responders to the attack on Kibbutz Kfar Aza, one of the hardest-hit communities that day. Commander Nechemya Danzig, will share a deeply personal and powerful account of his experiences in Israel’s ongoing multi-front war.

Simchat Torah/Sh’mini Atzeret/ Yizkor Service With The Israel String Trio Symphony Orchestra

Tuesday, October 14 at 6:00 pm (at WRT)


Let's all get together as we conclude the High Holiday season and commemorate the Hebrew yahrzeit of October 7th with an extraordinary opportunity to support the arts in Israel. Following a Simchat Torah service and congregational dinner, we will welcome a trio from the Israeli Symphony Orchestra, the resident orchestra of the Tel Aviv Opera.


The program, which will feature both classical music and Israeli folk and art song, will allow us the opportunity to hear extraordinary artistry and to offer our support to and solidarity with one of Israel’s preeminent musical ensembles during challenging times.
