Dear WRT Family,
"There is nothing so whole as a broken heart," said the Chasidic Master, Rabbi Menachem Mendel of Kotzk.
On this eve of a new year, we summon hope from the broken places.
And in the spirit of the Kotzker Rebbe's teaching, I am grateful to share with you this poem composed by Israeli writer Tal Shavit in the days following October 7th, and translated from Hebrew by our dear friend and frequent WRT guest, Dr. Rachel Korazim.
You may wish to offer it as a meditation privately, or around your family tables as you welcome the new year.
L'Shanah Yoter Tovah - to a better year, a sweeter year, a year of healing and hope,
Rabbi Jonathan E. Blake

stories, and ask questions together with a member of the clergy team. All are welcome!

Each Shabbat morning we gather informally to read and discuss the week’s Torah portion. The morning begins with a brief Shabbat service at which mourners who wish to say Kaddish are warmly welcomed. The group is led by volunteers, with clergy participation. No prior experience with Torah is necessary.

Our congregant, Dani Rader, who is a first-year rabbinical student at Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion in Jerusalem, was recently featured in Lilith Magazine with this stirring essay that touches on the themes of these coming Days of Awe. Meditation with Norm Goldstein
Friday, October 18 at 11:00 am (in the CJL Living Room)
Many of us are aware that mindfulness and meditation have become increasingly present in people’s lives as a set of tools to navigate stress, increase calmness and clarity, and to promote joy. We at WRT are excited to be continuing our Meditation Lab, which utilizes Judaism as a context for meditation and explores Jewish meditative techniques. While each of us continues to navigate our emotions and responses to the ongoing crisis in Israel and Gaza, we will also continue to use meditation as a way of creating more space in our hearts and minds.
