Shabbat Evening Service -

Juneteenth Shabbat

Friday, June 17 at 6:15 pm (in-person outdoors or live streamed)

As a holy community, WRT models a world made whole, a world in which the painful racial unrest and injustice of our time is transformed through repair and reconciliation into unity and harmony.

We will join in a spirit of love and shared responsibility with our friends and neighbors, the congregation and clergy of Greater Centennial A.M.E. Zion Church in Mount Vernon.

Church Pastor, our beloved friend and teacher the Rev. Dr. Stephen W. Pogue, will preach to our congregation. We are thrilled that we will be joined this year by the Mass Choir of Greater Centennial, whose soaring voices will lift our spirits in joyful song.

During this service we will observe the federal holiday of Juneteenth, which recognizes the day on which, in 1865, the last slaves in the United States were set free.

Join us at our outdoor tent for services, where everyone is expected to be vaccinated and boosted if eligible. If there is a forecast of rain, we will move services to the main sanctuary. (Unvaccinated children under 12 years old, and people over 12 years old without a booster, may attend if they tested negative on an antigen test earlier that day.) Masks will then be required and distanced seating is available in our spacious Sanctuary.
