WSA DISTRIBUTES DISCOUNTED PPE & CLEANING SUPPLIES TO ALAMO AREA CHILD CARE SERVICE PROVIDERS
On May 19th, Workforce Solutions Alamo (WSA) Child Care Services teamed up with the Texas Child Care Task Force, the Health and Human Services Commission, and local entities to facilitate the distribution of cleaning supplies and PPE directly from supplier Kim Paper to Alamo Area Child Care Service Providers. During this initial event held at the YMCA of Greater San Antonio, 22 child care centers received supplies at discounted prices through this partnership. The distribution was provided through a drive-through system where volunteers served as personal shoppers to fulfill the orders.

WSA CHANGING LIVES EVERY DAY!
The City of Pleasanton and Workforce Solutions Alamo recently partnered up to serve the youth in the Pleasanton Area (Atascosa County). The city had been looking for candidates to hire for three positions that were filled by our youth. City Manager Johnny Guizer said that the youth program not only filled the positions with excellent employees but saved the city money because of the work experience services. Before working together with WSA, it would take a long time to fill the positions because it was hard to find good employees.

The city staff also could see the growth in our youth from when they started. Our youth were excellent for the positions as they are responsible, hard workers, with excellent soft skills. This partnership has been very successful--youth are being mentored and retained while they participate in a work experience opportunity.

EMPLOYERS NEEDED:
HIRE VIRTUAL SUMMER INTERNS THROUGH SA WORKS
The current pandemic has highlighted resilient industries, compounded in-demand occupations and taught us new ways of working. Now more than ever, our future workforce needs access to internships that provide insight into the professional skills required to build a career in our changing world. SA Works is here to help employers host Virtual Project-based and Virtual Mentor-based Internships this summer. Below is more information about these two types of internships.

Virtual Project-based Internships are short-term, paid, professional assignments where interns complete 5 to 40 hours of work over 2 to 6 weeks. Employers determine the project and milestones along the way. Interns check in on a regular cadence to report progress.

Virtual Mentor-Based Internships are aimed at developing intern employability skills, like communications, work-ethic and time management. Mentor-based internships also provide staff growth opportunities through managing and mentoring interns. With the guidance of a mentor, interns go through an online curriculum provided by SA Works and a project assigned by their mentors to be completed and presented at the end of the internship period.

If your business would like more information about participating in this initiative, please contact Saani Fong at ssfong@sanantonioedf.com or visit SAWorks.org/employers .
