ART is for Everyone

Sunflowers at the Elm Bank Gardens

Dear Members,

Last month the Elm Bank Gardens were especially spectacular which was discovered by everyone attending the Plein Air event. Over 35 artists from the WSA, New England Watercolor Society, Dedham Art Association and Needham Art Association enjoyed a beautiful day taking in the meandering paths of Weezie's Garden to the colorful pollinator garden, not to mention the sunfllower display that was an added bonus...and the weather was beautiful. Thank you to WSA and New England Watercolor Society member Yale Nicolls who helped coordinate this event.

Many of our members have asked about marketing strategies for selling artwork, and so the programming committee led by Nancy Present Van Broekhoven has planned an evening "The Nuts and Bolts of Selling Art" with Gillian and John Ross, owners of Gallery Twist in Lexington to share their knowledge and experience on Tuesday, September 29th at 6:30pm at the Wellesley Free Library. This program is free and open to the public so please bring a friend and share it with fellow artists.

Planning for the early 2027 show A Charles River Journey, also continues and we are currently looking for member volunteers. There are lots of "jobs" to fit both interest and skills, and time commitment. We are currently looking for someone to co chair the Reception Committee and another co chair for the Exhibition. Please let me know if you are interested in helping out. It's a great opportunity to get to know fellow artists and help out.

We need your help

to fill these empty canvases!

Since the 2025 ornament sale was such a huge success, we have decided to bring it to the Wellesley Hills Junior Women's Club Annual Marketplace on Saturday, November 21st. The Wellesley Marketplace now in its 48th year is a beloved annual holiday market for those seeking unique gifts for family and friends. The Marketplace brings some of the very best vendors to our corner of MetroWest Boston.

Last year we sold 100 ornaments at the Wellesley History Center and this year we hope to more than double that number, but we need your help to do it! Mini canvases will be provided, we just need you to provide your time and talent. The goal is 200 ornaments! And just to make things a little more interesting, in addition to the ornaments we are also going to include mini paintings 5x7 or 6x6. Again, gessoed boards will be available that can be used for a variety of mediums. Contact: wsaartists@gmail.com.

Join us for ornament painting on September 9 at Art Oasis at the Natick Mall, Noon - 2:00pm. Bring your paints and we will provide the mini canvases! Or just stop by and pick up your mini canvases to do at home. Thank you to Art Oasis for hosting us!!

The Wellesley Society of Artists and the Dedham Art Association in collaboration with the Charles River Watershed Association, invite New England area artists to a Call for Art for the early 2027 exhibition, A Charles River Journey: 80 Artists, 80 Miles.

Artists are invited to share their visual impressions of the Charles River—from its meandering natural landscapes to the diverse communities it connects, and its vital role as both a recreational and ecological resource. Seen through the artist’s eye the flora, fauna, people, and places are reimagined as a lasting record of the environmental and social narratives that define our time.

This unique exhibition will bring together artists to foster environmental awareness and give homage to the river as a vital thread connecting us to nature and each other. Eighty works will be selected, representing the rich and varied life of the Charles River along its full 80-mile journey from Hopkinton to Boston.
