Earth month is finally here! We believe that it's important to celebrate Earth month to connect with others in the sustainability movement. Earth month also serves as a great way to remind us of the importance of our work and to take a moment out of your grind to acknowledge, celebrate, and learn.

We understand that springtime can be busy catching up on all of the things you ignored while dealing with that Wisconsin seasonal depression we all share. Which is why we collected a list of Earth month events & workshops to help you connect and learn this month.

Business as a Force for Good: What's a B Corp?

Join Mary Stelletello, Founder of Vista Global Coaching & Consulting, Wisconsin’s first certified B Corp and Scott Andersen, Co-Founder of Artisan Dental, B Local Wisconsin, Co-Chair for a brief overview and Q&A session to explore the journey of becoming a Certified B Corp and B Local Wisconsin.

What are Certified B Corps?

Certified B Corporations (B Corps) are a global network of individuals that all use business as a force for good in the world. B Corps are required to meet the highest standards of verified social and environmental performance, public transparency, and legal accountability to balance profit and purpose. Today, there are more than 2,775 B Corps, which span across 60 different countries, and 150 different industries.

Say it Sustainably: Creating Messages with Impact

This 45-minute hands-on workshop is designed to provide tools to improve the clarity and effectiveness of your communications efforts.
2019 Earth Day Conference
April 22 | 7:30 AM – 5:00 PM CDT | Madison, WI
From the rising seas and the rushing flood waters to record-breaking heat waves and shifting landscapes, climate change is transforming the way we live. Our rapidly changing world requires us to adapt to a very different planet while imagining practical solutions to the challenges we face.

The Nelson Institute 2019 Earth Day Conference, Imagine and Adapt: Possibilities in a Changing World, will explore these challenges and resolutions through a number of straightforward, solution-focused sessions on topics such as adaptive infrastructure, environmental leadership, changes in agriculture and the cultural impact of climate change.

Featuring keynote speaker and climate-fiction author Kim Stanley Robinson, climate change adaptation leader Yolanda Joab, and leading thinkers and creative problem solvers, this conference will offer attendees the opportunity to learn about the innovative solutions available to help us adapt to the impacts of our changing reality.
9th Annual Earth Day Fair
April 22 | Time: TBD | Rhinelander
Sustainability Northwoods is a group dedicated to helping educate the community on different environmentally conscious alternatives in the Northwoods and keeping our Earth healthy.

For nearly 9 years, Sustainability Northwoods has hosted an Earth Day Fair at various locations in the Rhinelander area. The Earth Day Fair consists of informational booths, speakers, student experiments/research, foods from various organic farms, etc. Many businesses and organizations with a focus on sustainability will be there; from Local Organizations to Local Farmers, to help share their visions and sustainability initiatives.

The theme of the 2019 Fair is "Here's looking at you, kid!" This theme will focus on youth involvement and much, much more!
 
This year, the Earth Day Fair will be hosted on Earth Day, Monday April 22, 2019 at Nicolet College in Rhinelander. With such a great turnout of over 500 visitors last year, we have the highest hopes of reaching out to more communities in Northern Wisconsin and increasing that number!
The WAEE 7th Annual Energy Efficiency Expo

  • Join us as we celebrate with exhibitors bringing the latest in products, services and technology. All contributing to energy efficiency in our state.

Joint Finance Committee to Hold Public Hearings on Budget Bill

The Joint Committee on Finance announced that they will be holding four public hearings on Governor Tony Evers 2019-21 Biennial Budget proposal (Assembly Bill 56/Senate Bill 59) in April. 

We encourage you to take advantage of this opportunity to tell key legislators about your support for the renewable energy! See RENEW's latest legislative blog for a summary of the major energy issues that have been identified by RENEW Wisconsin. 

Some of the key proposals in the Governor’s Budget bill include:

  • Establishing a goal for Wisconsin to have 100% carbon-free energy by 2050.
  • Allocating $75 million in bonding to fund energy conservation projects on new and existing state-owned facilities. $25 million of these funds will be used for renewable energy projects.
  • Creating an Office of Sustainability and Clean Energy to manage the State’s energy needs.
  • Using $10 million of the VW Settlement funds for electric vehicle charge station grants.
  • Authorizing WEDC to grant 5% tax credits for energy efficiency or renewable projects.
