President's Message from Gary Fuller
What a marvelous night we had at the January 2022 President’s Awards Dinner. The event center was packed with young college culinarians, chefs, and associated members. Chef Prakash Niroula put on a dinner to be remembered at the SeaTac Hilton. The appetizers were fantastic, the lamb Timur achar (swechwan pepper relish) was the BEST!, followed by the marinated duck breast salad which was moist and very flavorful. The Entrée Nepalese spice-crusted king salmon was cooked perfectly and had a wonderful blend of spices and herbs. GREAT diner Chef! We really appreciated your creativity and demanding work.
The nights ceremony started off with the swearing-in of new officers, board members, and new members of our chapter. Our Chairperson of the Board and past President, Brandon LaVielle, kicked off the awards ceremony with presenting the Chef of the Year Award for 2020 to the whole chapter. Brandon explained it was a group effort running the chapter though the first year of covid during 2020.

Next up, Brandon awarded the Student of the Year, Noah Black, from Renton Technical College.
Chef Brandon then awarded two presidential medallions. I was honored to receive the first medal and the second medal went to Chef Evan Garrard from Lavish Roots Catering and Hospitality.

The Chef of the Year was Kahale Ahina, Bonney Lake High School Chef Instructor. Kahale is also a WSCA board member and our Social Media committee person. View his Member Spotlight Page here...

The raffle for a trip to Las Vegas for our ACF National Convention was a tremendous success. The winner was Alex Hernandez, a WSCA apprentice from Joey’s Southcenter. The Las Vegas trip includes airfare, hotel accommodations and registration fees. We are so glad it was one of our apprentices. What a special educational time for his career advancement.
