President Message - Chris Delarm, CDT
The holiday season is here and I hope everyone is close to finishing their Christmas shopping so you can enjoy the season of giving with friends and family. As the cold winds, grey skies and ski season rolls around, we begin to close out another year. This past year was full of fun and excitement for the WSDLA. We developed a clear voice in dentistry by promoting HB1782, enjoyed collaborating during the Round Table in the Tulalip Resort, learned from amazing teachers at the NW Lab Forum in Bellevue, and created new friendships with the growth of membership.

Welcome New 2019 WSDLA Board Members!

The Washington State Dental Laboratory Association would like to welcome its new Board members for 2019; Kaila Nakanishi, and Sherill Aumiller, CDT. We are excited to have them aboard, and can't wait to see what this year has in store for WSDLA!
Kaila Nakanishi, Nakanishi Dental Laboratory, Inc.
My family has been in the dental laboratory industry for over 65 years, but I really just stumbled into it. I started out as an interior designer with focus on CAD and I’ll be the first to say this was never the path I saw for myself. But the moment I stepped through the double doors and into the laboratory, I was hooked. There is something about the people and the culture (and the dust) that keeps me coming back day after day.

Sherill Aumiller, CDT, Thorn Ford Dental Laboratory, LLC
I got into the dental laboratory industry in 1973, while I was in high school. My mother was working at Nakanishi Dental Lab, in the office, and she referred me for a summer job, working in the model room. At the end of the summer I was asked to stay on. After high school, I felt that working in a lab was a good fit for me, so I decided to pursue being a technician as a career. Over the years, I have worked in large labs, small labs, in-house labs, and at one time I owned a lab for 9 years.

Business Management
Your Habits Predict Your Future
John Marshall - Results Driven
In managing your lab, your habits can lead you to be successful. Very successful. Or, your habits can cause you and your lab to struggle.

A habit is something we do unconsciously. They say, “people form habits and habits form the future.”

So, what are you in the habit of doing? Do you have positive habits that are so strongly embedded that they are part of your unconscious? Or, are your habits sown with seeds of doubt?

Screw Retained Implant Restorations
Bob Lathrop, CDT, MBA - Nakanishi Dental Laboratory, Inc.
Implant supported restorations are becoming a main stream solution for many laboratories and the decision between 1-piece and cemented crowns has become a major concern for the general dentist. Screw retained abutments and cemented crowns have been very popular over the years, however, studies have shown that the cement causes potential problems with implant failure due to the cement not being removed from the implant site.
