The Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB) is pleased to announce that Elizabeth Witmer has been re-appointed for a fourth term as Chair of the Board of Directors. First appointed in 2012, Mrs. Witmer will continue to serve as Chair through December 31, 2021.
Through Mrs. Witmer’s leadership, guidance and oversight, the WSIB has been able to eliminate a historic unfunded liability, reduce the average premium rate by almost 50%, introduce a new Health and Safety Excellence program, all while continuing to focus on achieving the best outcomes possible for people with claims to have safe, timely and lasting return to work.
Most recently, Mrs. Witmer has championed support for businesses through the early stages of the COVID-19 pandemic, and helped to ensure the WSIB did not lose a single day of service to Ontarians.
A dedicated advocate for workplace health and safety and public service, Mrs. Witmer has received numerous honours including the Queen’s Golden and Diamond Jubilee Medals, the Social Work Doctors’ Award and most recently, the Ontario General Contractors Association Doug Chalmers Award for Safety.
We at the WSIB are grateful for Mrs. Witmer’s continued leadership and look forward to building on our momentum as we seek to deliver better results for the people we serve.
