Honouring families through the Day of Mourning and Steps for Life | On Sunday, April 28, we commemorate the National Day of Mourning as a day to remember and honour those who have died, been injured or suffered illness in the workplace. | | |
|
The Day of Mourning gives us time to reflect on those whose lives have been forever changed by workplace tragedies. We encourage you to use these free resources to share the importance of the Day of Mourning with your employees, customers and networks.
You can also show support for families devastated by workplace tragedy by volunteering, donating to, or walking in Steps for Life. Fundraising walks are held in cities across the province and support Threads of Life, a national charity that helps families in Canada who have been affected by workplace tragedies.
In the Thunder Bay or Toronto area? Your walk coincides with the National Day of Mourning on April 28. Register today for these or other events. If there is no event in your community, consider supporting team WSIB, with all donations going directly to Steps for Life.

Nominations are open for our 2024 Small Business Health and Safety Leadership Awards! The awards recognize independently-owned and operated businesses with fewer than 50 employees that go the extra mile to keep their employees and customers safe.
The top three businesses will receive a monetary prize:
- Gold – $10,000
- Silver – $6,000
- Bronze – $4,000
Entering is easy – just complete the submission form and email it back to us by June 30, 2024.

The WSIB leads by example, expands mental health support for employees | Of all the claims we get from workplaces across Ontario, mental health claims are growing faster than any other type. We’re leading by example by making our employees’ mental health a top priority. In the most recent issue of Benefits Canada magazine our Chief People Officer, Anna Filice, talks about our enhanced, unlimited mental health coverage for employees. | |
