Review leads to change in how injured foreign agricultural workers are treated

In May, we announced the completion of our foreign agricultural worker review. The review has resulted in new measures to help foreign agricultural workers recover from an injury or illness in Ontario, and to treat them fairly when they return to their home country.

Our new Foreign Agricultural Worker Strategy emphasizes recovery and return to work in Ontario for foreign agricultural workers. When an injured person does have to return to their home country, we are also changing how we review suitable work available in the job market.

Helping our heroes

Research shows first responders are twice as likely to experience post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) than the general population. We know how important it is to provide timely decision making and supports for work-related mental stress injuries. On May 15, we presented our strategy to reduce the impact of mental stress injuries on first responders and others at the Ontario First Responders’ Mental Health Conference.

Summer is here so it's time to #PracticeSafeWork

Summer is here, and that means a lot of young people taking on summer jobs or entering the workforce.

This year we are reminding people in this age group that they’re only human, and encouraging them to work safely and know their rights and responsibilities.

The Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB) is here to help. When an injury or illness happens on the job, we move quickly to provide wage-loss benefits, medical coverage and support to help people get back to work. Funded by businesses, we also provide no-fault collective liability insurance and access to industry-specific health and safety information. We are one of the largest insurance organizations in North America covering over five million people in more than 300,000 workplaces across Ontario.
