Each member of the WSJD Board of Directors serves in their respective seat for three year term. WSJD is now accepting nominations for the following three seats on the Board:
Vice President
Treasurer
Director 1 (Outreach)
If you would like to self-nominate or nominate others for this dynamic and active board or have questions, please

the Nominating Committee by
April 15
. In your email, share with us in a brief paragraph your vision for WSJD and why you would like to serve on the board of directors.

|
On Improving Access:
On February 24, representatives of the WSJD Board of Directors shared tips on "how to create a "Deaf Friendly Synagogue" with the Inclusion Committee of the Jewish Federation of Greater Washington (JFGW). During this meeting, three critical issues were identified:
- lack of available and qualified interpreters for Shabbat, life cycle events, and holiday services
- need for Deaf Awareness training for synagogue staff
- ways synagogues can fund interpreters
This dialogue will continue as the JFGW and WSJD work together to develop an action plan to address these concerns. If you have input to share, contact Susan Cohen and Liz Katz, at
wsjd01@gmail.com
.

|
Inclusive Shabbat Experience:
Despite the icy and snowy weather on Friday, February 1, over 20 members of WSJD joined
Oseh Shalom
in their
Family Potluck, Shabbat Service and discussion session. This event was featured in an article in the
Laurel Leader
newspaper.
WSJD thanks Oseh Shalom for the warm welcome,
WSJD member Steve Weiner
for leading the discussion on "Living as a Jew in Deaf Culture," and synagogue members
Joy Schwarz Mason
and
Carrie Quigley
for providing ASL interpreting services. Yasher koach!
L'Shalom,
Susan F. Cohen

Jewish Deaf Congress Update:
In a letter to the community, t
he JDC noted, "In the past, JDC hosted biennial conferences that were co-hosted with a sponsoring local organization that handled logistics at the conference site. Due to declining attendance, JDC does not consider a conference to be the best or only way to reach the largest number of people. In addition, there is no local Deaf Jewish organization willing to take on a big project like a biennial conference at this time." To view the letter to learn more,
