Dear WSMS Parents and Guardians,

Happy New Year!  As difficult as it was to wake up this week, it is great to get back into a routine and see the students and staff.  I hope your holidays were filled with rest, relaxation, and time with family.  Our staff spent Monday and Tuesday of this week in professional development during the morning and team planning in the afternoons.  This time is extremely important as they get an opportunity to get a jumpstart on the semester and prepare for your children to be back in their classes.

We have already hit the ground running and anticipate a full and busy second semester.  We will have our 2nd part of our "How To Connect With Your Middle Schooler" PTO Parent Presentation series next Friday, January 15 at 1:00 PM.  This presentation will provide you information so you can have fruitful conversations with your child about the classes they register for next year.  Please see more information below.

Have a great week!

Kevin

New/Updated Information

REMINDER! Final Exams Make Up
If a student was unable to take a final exam before Winter Break, they can make it up on Wednesday, January 6th through Friday, January 8th. Please feel free to contact your son or daughter's teacher to schedule a time to make up a final exam.

REMINDER! Final Exam Grades
Final exam grades will be posted in PowerSchool on Friday, January 8th. Final Exams are a summative assessment over material that has been covered during the first semester. Teachers will be closing out their grades for the first semester once final exams have been completed. The summative data from final exams will provide teachers with a road map for instructional planning and intervention during the spring semester.

REMINDER! Attn: 7th Grade Families with Virtual Learners
In January, all 7th grade students take an Algebra Readiness Test. The results of this test will be used for upcoming registration and will give a recommendation for math placement in 8th grade. All 7th grade students, with the exception of current 7th Grade GT students, are required to take the test. Because the test is a standardized and timed test, all students must take the exam on campus.

The test will be given to 7th grade virtual students at WSMS on January 15th at 9:00 am and 1:30 pm. To ensure we are practicing social distancing, please sign up for the particular time you are interested in attending. Click here to sign up.  If you have any questions about the upcoming test, please contact your child's counselor.

WSMS Career Day ~ SAVE THE DATE, February 11, 2021, 9:15 - 12:50pm
Come share your professional expertise with Willow Springs students!  Each Career Day presenter will meet with groups of students in 20-30 minute presentations, sharing educational requirements, salary and travel expectations, future prospects, and what a "day in the life" is like in this career field.

Tickets for WSMS Sporting Events
In order to control our environment as best we can, we are requiring attendees to pre-purchase tickets.  The link to do this for the WSMS home games this week can be found here.  All middle school football games will be played at the high school this year in order to increase capacity.

WSMS Basketball
Our season finally gets underway this week, with 7th Grade on January 6th and 8th Grade on January 7th.

WSMS PTO

Happy New Year! I hope you and your family enjoyed the holidays and extra time together. Please see some important notes below, and mark your calendar for February 9th at 10am, our next PTO membership meeting.

Parent Presentation
The next presentation will take place on January 15th at 1:00pm via Zoom. Mary Cabrera (the LHS Counselor), with the help of Kevin Parker, Kathy Stone, and Carey Miller will offer "Class Registration Helpful Hints".  This presentation will provide a general outline for parents to consider when selecting classes for both rising 8th graders and rising 9th graders next year.  Following this presentation, more specific information will be provided about registration through parent meetings before registration in February.
