Dear WSMS Parents and Guardians,

Next Monday and Tuesday, November 2nd and 3rd, our students have both of those days off.  Our staff, however, will be working together in the mornings of those two days to continue to find ways they can deliver the best instruction possible.  In the afternoons, they will be working with their grade level teams to plan lessons that are engaging and targeting so our students can finish the semester strong.

The new and popular pieces of clothing at the middle school are t-shirts with bands from the 1980's.  Although this puts a smile on my face that I get to revisit memories from the '80s, when I ask students about these bands that are on the front of their shirts (Van Halen, Poison, Journey, etc.) they have no idea who these bands are.  I challenge you to educate your children on the best era of music to have existed (obviously my opinion since its the era I grew up in).  I will do my part when I see these shirts as well, although your children have zero interest in having this discussion with me. (Thank you for letting me be a little light hearted this week!)

Stay warm and rock on!

Have a great week!

Kevin

NEW! Lovejoy Letter Campaign: Now through October 30
Lovejoy Family!!  The 7th annual Lovejoy Letter Campaign for teachers and staff members has begun!  Many of you are familiar with this beloved tradition, but for those of you who are not, it is the time of year when we write appreciation letters for each of our teachers and staff members across the district.

The letters do not have to be elaborate or lengthy. The goal is just for people to write a note of thanks to show appreciation to their teachers, the staff and administration in our district.  It is the opportunity for us to take the time to let each person who makes a difference for us throughout the school day know how much we value them.

Please clearly label the envelope with the staff/teacher's name and LLC (Lovejoy Letter Campaign) and return the letter to the box located at a specified location of each campus no later than Friday November 13th.  Please feel free to share this message as we spread the word about the campaign. We do not want to add any extra burden to our kids and parents, but we do want to share how much we appreciate our teachers and staff - especially this year in these very unusual times!

NEW! WSMS All Region Orchestra
This past Saturday our region hosted our Annual All Region Orchestra Contest virtually. All Region is an individual competition where our students learn a packet of music that includes an etude and excerpts that they have to learn on their own. This music is difficult and stretches them as musicians. They compete against all other musicians from 6th-8th grade in our region. This includes Allen, Plano, Wylie and Sherman. They sent in recordings of themselves performing certain small sections of the required music for a panel of judges. This is a very intense process and our students did very well!
