Dear Willow Springs Parents and Guardians,

I can’t believe that we are almost six weeks into the school year.  With that timeline comes our UIL rules for sports, better known as No Pass, No Play.  This Friday is our grade snapshot for  UIL.  Students must be passing their classes in order to continue to play the sports that they are involved in here at Willow Springs.  If your student has missing work or low test grades, they need to make sure they are coming in before or after school or during Leopard Time to get those grades up.  Below is more information on when eligibility would be lost and/or regained.

Speaking of grades, this year’s grading guidelines have shifted some.  I know that the vast majority of you already know this, but this year, students can redo their major grades (tests) for up to an 85.  Also, students may turn in late work until the unit assessment has been completed.  For instance, if a teacher is in Unit 3, the only work that can still be turned in is work from Unit 3.  Unit 2 and Unit 1 missing work remains a zero.

We appreciate your support and commitment to Willow Springs.  Thank you for having those crucial conversations with your students about their grades and responsibilities.

Respectfully,

Chris

NEW! Lovejoy ISD Campus Library Updates

In an effort to support transparency and parental involvement, Lovejoy ISD school libraries are initiating a communication practice. Parents will receive a weekly notification from the campus librarian that includes library materials their student currently checked out. Librarians began sending notifications out the week of September 12th. Parents should ensure email contact information is current in PowerSchool so to receive the weekly information.

Parents will also have the option to request limited access for their child to library materials. Campus librarians will post information on the campus website that provides guidance for parents to request specific book titles they do not want their child to check out.

Our campus librarians serve as an excellent resource for parents should you have questions. The District is committed to providing extension and enrichment opportunities for students with library materials through school and home partnerships.

NEW! Classroom Conversations

We are so excited to have our Classroom Conversations this year. This will be every Monday during 4th period.  We will be focusing on character traits that empower our students to be good citizens who are trustworthy, responsible, and caring.

We will be starting off discussing responsibility and how that applies to making decisions, solving problems, and behaving responsibly.

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to reach out to your student's counselor.

Kelly Collins - 7th Grade

Carey Miller - 8th Grade

NEW! Developing Student Ownership in Learning

One of our goals is to work with students to build ownership and responsibility in their own learning. Consider having your student make first contact with his/her teachers by emailing them about assignments and/or tests. For example, if your student has not completed a homework assignment or a test, please encourage your student to do the following:

  • Log into Power School to determine what test/assignment is missing.
  • Go to the Google Classroom to print off and complete the assignment and/or any test preparation materials
  • Email their teacher and ask questions about the assignment or missing work
  • Talk to their teacher about the missing assignment or test
  • Know how and where to turn in the assignment or complete the test

NEW! Boys Basketball Preseason Parent Meeting

Willow Springs Middle School would like to invite all athletes and parents to the boys basketball preseason parent meeting on Monday, October 3rd.

The meeting will talk about the number of teams we will field, how many players will be kept, and what the tryout process looks like for the program. We will also have an opportunity to introduce our staff for this year.

The meeting will take place at the Lovejoy High School cafeteria from 6:00-6:30 pm.

Thanks and if you have any questions, please contact Will Yaeger at [email protected]

Lovejoy Theatre Presents: All In The Timing

Lovejoy High School Theatre is thrilled to present their production of All in The Timing, by David Ives. The show will be performed on September 30 and October 1, 2022 at 7:00 pm.

Wit, intellect, satire and just plain fun! This production features nine diverse and interesting one-act comedies. They range from the sentimental to the absurd, but are all equally hysterical. Every scene focuses on the way that people utilize language, and deconstruct the perspectives people have on life and meaning.

All in the Timing uses inspired language and word play to examine various attempts at relationships and communication with comical results.  It will push your smart buttons, tease your brain, and tickle your heart!

Tickets are $7 for students, seniors and staff, and $10 for adults. Tickets will be on sale beginning September 19 at the online box office at https://tinyurl.com/LHSBoxOffice22-23

Join us for an evening of laughter and an experience that breaks all the rules of Theatre. Come join us for All In The Timing at the Lovejoy High School Auditorium at: 2350 Estates Parkway, Lucas, Texas.
