What We Did This Summer:

WSOC Summer Camp Edition

Our student campers had a wonderful summer drawing, painting, dancing, crafting, playing music, learning new things, and of course partaking in the classic Slip N Slide! Thanks to everyone who joined us this summer. See you next week!

What We Did This Summer:

Faculty and Staff Edition

School Administrator Kevin McDuff (pictured with his granddaughter): "We spent two amazing weeks of family time in Whistler (BC), Portland and San Francisco."

Aftercare assistant Faolan Grady: "New academic adventures on the East coast including a castle and knight's armor!" Mr. Grady is an MFA candidate in Creative Writing in Fiction at Arcadia University in Philadelphia.

Guess the breed and number of the puppies Mr. Corcoran kept an eye on this summer!

What do a Bavarian and an Austrian have in common? Turns out, a lot — if you are Ms. Christiane and Ms. Hubert! We each went back to the “Old World” to see family, and managed to meet up and spend a few fun hours near Munich, including a visit to the oldest marionette theater, which has been in operation for over 165 years now!

- Andrea Hubert, Grade 5 class teacher

"The Eijpen family headed off to Scotland this summer. After a family reunion in Pitlochry the 4 of us headed off in an RV to drive the North Coast 500, a route leaving from Inverness and following the eastern, northern and western coastlines of Highland Scotland. It was nothing short of breathtaking in terms of scenery. Lots of adventures hiking, caving and boat trips. Can't recommend my homeland strongly enough!"

- Kim Eijpen, high school science teacher

"This summer, I graduated with my Masters in Fine Arts in Creative Nonfiction from the University of Reno, Nevada at Lake Tahoe. Afterward, my sons Liam and Aidan and I went adventuring around the many secluded coves of Lake Tahoe and the wilds of Yosemite. Swimming and hiking was a much-needed nature re-set for us all!"

- Alyssa Hamilton, Communications Coordinator

Director of Admissions Brooke Natzke completed a 500 mile pilgrimage across northern Spain called the Camino de Santiago. Of medieval origin, the various routes culminate at the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela where legend has it that the remains of the Apostle St. James the Great were buried. Brooke spent 33 days on the trail, walking with pilgrims from all over the world!

High School Hydrogen Fuel Cell Car Club

Advances to Global Competition

WSOC's Hydrogen Fuel Cell Car Club, comprised of team members Aaron T. (team leader), WSOC alumna Elena R., Lauren C., Danillo D. and TC M. - has been working on designing, building, and racing RC cars powered by hydrogen fuel cells as part of a program that encourages renewable energy and STEM education in high schools. They're a new team — only two years old — but despite this, they recently qualified to compete in the H2GP world final race, an international event taking place in Las Vegas at the largest energy trade show in North America: the RE+!

The competition is set to occur in Las Vegas, Nevada, spanning September 11-14.

"We will be facing off against global competitors hailing from five continents, competing against over 25 different schools from across the globe. With anticipation, we look forward to gauging our performance against the international field," said team advisor Cameron Weiss.

"After achieving commendable results at the State Finals earlier in the year, we dedicated our summer break to refining our car. These enhancements aim to elevate us to a higher tier of competition, contending for coveted podium positions. Success will hinge on strategy, skill, and a touch of luck. The countless hours of research and engineering our students poured into the car this year should give us a solid chance to bring home some hardware!"

For more information or to support the club, please contact Gina Garrison.

High School Athletics Updates

Dear families and high school students,

We are excited about the upcoming school year and the different CIF high school sports we are striving to offer our student body.

Girls' Volleyball season officially started, with the first practice on Monday, August 28th at WSOC.

We are looking to offer Boys & Girls Cross Country this coming fall season, starting on Monday, September 11th. If you are interested in participating in the Waldorf Cross Country Program, please email me (Please note, if you are already playing Girls' Volleyball, you can not also play Girls' Cross Country).

We are pleased to offer Boys' Soccer in winter season, from the end of October through mid-February.

We are planning to offer Girls' Beach Volleyball in spring season, from February through mid- April. If you have any interest in playing either of these sports, please let me know and we will make sure you are put on the program's email distribution list and introduced to the coaches.

Please make sure you get your CIF Athletic Clearances completed with your health care provider. These are "must-haves" in order to participate in any practice, sport or PE class. They can be found in your Back to School packet or obtained at the high school office.

Looking forward to another great year at WSOC!
