What to ask your student
English:
What is your claim for your opinion column? What book are you reading during independent reading time? Have you been making entries in your lexicon?

Civics:
What topic are you working on for the Washtenaw County Local Government project? What is going on in Washtenaw County that you previously didn’t know about? Who is in your group, and how is it going working with them?

Science:
How are plants and animals different? How are they similar? Where does most of a plant’s mass come from as it grows? How are you preparing for your cumulative final exam that will happen on Tuesday, 12/12?

*Note that math class information will not be included in our 9th grade newsletters.
Academic work outside of school
In some classes, students will have regular homework. In all classes, students should expect to study and spend time working on larger projects outside of the school day. Major assignments and projects are always launched during class time so that students have a secure understanding (and successful experience) before they move forward on their own or with a small group.

  • English: ALL late work and do-overs of assignments are due by 10pm on Friday, December 1. The final Lexicon is due on Monday, December 4. Students are writing an opinion column. The final opinion column is due by 10pm on Friday, December 8.

  • Science: Students will be making a model in class that shows what we’ve figured out about how plants grow, move, and function. Note that science retakes and late work will not be accepted after Friday, December 8th at 4pm. There will be a cumulative final exam in science class on Tuesday, 12/12.

  • Civics: Before Thanksgiving, all students had the opportunity to learn “SketchNotes” taught by local artist Yen Azzaro. We’ll reinforce these skills with the December Study Skill tip!  All resubmissions and retakes for Civics are due by Monday, December 4. We launched the Local Government Project and are doing research during class time. Your student may need extra time and help to learn about their local issue.
