What to ask your student

English:

  • What are your thoughts on A Raisin in the Sun? How is your dialectical journal coming along? What are you reading during independent reading time?

Civics:

  • What do you already know about the U.S. Constitution? In the Constitution unit, students are participating in a role play activity (and recently did a role play for the Lake Erie Unit). What role(s) have you played? What did you like or dislike about your role(s)?

Science:

  • How are we impacting the Lake Erie watershed? What can be done to improve that watershed? What are similarities and differences between water and ethanol?

*Note that math class information will not be included in our 9th grade newsletters.

Academic work outside of school

In some classes, students will have regular homework. In all classes, students should expect to study and spend time working on larger projects outside of the school day. Major assignments and projects are always launched during class time so that students have a solid understanding (and successful experience) before they move forward on their own or with a small group.

A great time to practice study skills and complete homework is the 3:00 to 4:00 block of time at the end of the school day.

There are TONS of great places to study on campus: the WTMC Student Lounge/Library, Bailey Library in GM, and The Spot in the Student Center are some of students’ favorite places to go!

Click HERE to read a description of an active study strategy to help students practice this important skill! A new strategy will be posted each month.

Reminders

9th Grade Curriculum Night: If you missed our 9th grade curriculum night on Sept. 12, you can view the slides from the presentation HERE.

Soft Skill Credentialing: Last week, students received their initial soft skill grades in PowerSchool for each of their classes.

An “S” means that the student is showing satisfactory soft skills. They are demonstrating behaviors and habits that are appropriate for college classes.

An “N” means that the student “needs improvement” and does not yet demonstrate the full range of soft skills that are necessary for success in WTMC classes and college classes. The student should meet with their BASE advisor and/or review PowerSchool comments to work on improving their soft skills. Students can still earn an S at second credentialing!

WTMC’s Homecoming Dance is happening on Friday, October 4 from 7:00 - 10:00pm in the Morris Lawrence building on WCC’s campus. Tickets must be purchased online by September 30th. Tickets will not be available at the door. More info can be found HERE.
